    Hi,

I can't seem to create an app package for my Windows Phone 8 app. I've built it in Unity 4.5 and opened the project in Visual Studio 2013 (update 2). It compiles fine but everything in the Store menu is greyed out. I've made sure the Project is selected in the explorer and cleaned the project but still nothing.

Is there anything I've missed? Do I need to have a phone connected to do this?

    Thanks,
    Tony

    Hi,

you don't need to explicitly create a package for Windows Phone 8 (unlike Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows Store). It is created every time you build your application. Look for a .xap file in <ProjectDirectory>\Bin\ARM\Master directory.

Ah, great - thanks for that, everything I read was talking about the store stuff!

hello im trying to make an app package, but visual studio 2013(12.0.21005.1 REL) cant open my project (incompatible) and i cant find the function in vs2012 (visual studio express 2012 for windows phone 11.0.6.1030.00 update 4)

i can run the project on my windows phone (8.1) by deploying it with the unity editor or visual studio 2012 without any problems

what is the supposed workflow / programm to create app packages from unity projects?

Hi, see my first reply. For Windows Phone 8 applications, you don't need to do it.

As mentioned by Tautvydas, Windows Phone doesn't use app packages. When you build your app it will be a .XAP file in a subfolder of your Visual Studio solution (Bin\Master\AppName.XAP I think...off the top of my head). This is the file you eventually upload when you publish a Windows Phone app.

When Visual Studio says your project is incompatible you are probably opening the project in the wrong version of Visual Studio. With VS Express, you must open a phone project with the version for phone, and the Windows 8 version for the Windows versions and the desktop version with VS Express for Desktop. This might be a little different with VS Express 2013 because I think you can now work on phone and Windows Store apps in the same version.

Also, when building app packages (for Windows 8, using VS Express for Windows), the 'create package' options will be greyed out unless you select the main project in the solution explorer first.

Also, if you are targeting Windows 8.1 you must use VS Express 2013 for Windows, which can only be run on Windows 8.1 (I think).

thank you guys, i was first a bit concerned because the xap package was quite small, but it worked out in the end

im still a bit bummed as vs 2013 for windows (which is the tool for wp8.1 apps too) still cant open my project and vs2012 for wp somehow adds strange numbers onto the screen. but unitys buildts are top notch though

hello all, I followed the instruction on this post, generated an .xap to upload to the WP store, but I get this error

"You can upload only .appx, .appxbundle or .appxupload files."

Has thing changed since July 2014?

    I appreciate your help.

Looks like you're trying to upload it to Windows store, rather than the Windows Phone store. The former does not support XAPs.
