What version of the Hub are you talking about and where you off line when you started it?

I think I am using the latest version of the hub? I didn't know there were other versions available, I might try to use an older one. My internet is working when I try launching it, haven't had any issues with any other internet service

I can't find older versions of the Hub if that is even anywhere to download

    There is the beta version.

In the meantime, try the following:
    • quit the Hub from the system tray,
    • delete the Unity Hub and UnityHub folder you'll find in "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming",
    • restart the Hub and see what happens.

For Mac OS Look in ~yourusername/Library/Application Support and delete/rename the 'UnityHub' folder there.

Today, Unity Hub auto-updated to v3 and I'm experiencing the same issue described above.
I'm on MacOS 12.1, and deleting the UnityHub folder as suggested above doesn't work.

I attach the complete log file, including the upgrade logs. One notable error is
I tried to downgrade with an older Hub installer, but every time it keeps auto-updating. Suggestions, opinions?

    On MacOS Monterey:

I was connected to a VPN to access my client source control:

Hub was not working only blank screen.
Cleaned everything in Library/Application Support/Unity and Hub, Desintall hub and reinstall
    Still blank screen .

    errors in hub info-log.json :
    getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND core.cloud.unity3d.com
    getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND api.unity.com

Disconnected from VPN ( TunnelBlick ) and bang eveything works fine.

Also does not work, reinstallation does not help, cleaning the registry too. And all the folders that are linked in Unity also deleted and still does not work. And as suggested above, delete it from the Roaming folder, to no avail. Please reply if you can solve the problem.

Deleting folders did not work for me. I was on the beta version of the unity hub. Uninstalling the beta hub and installing the regular one has solved my problem.

I wanted to share my experience in case any Unity developers stumble across this thread. The core issue appears to be that this generic "critical error" spans a wide array of bugs that cause it.

Myself and a few others in this thread, our issue was related to varying network errors (in previous versions of UnityHub) were handled gracefully. Another user had issues connecting to Unity servers due to a VPN. For myself (from looking at the logs in Users/Me/AppData/Roaming/UnityHub/logs) the issue was because I had previously opened a project that existed on a Network drive.

The fix for me was to BOTH connect to the proper network (so the Network Drive that was mounted to Z: on my machine was accessible), and then delete the UnityHub folder in AppData/Roaming. Doing either of these two without the other didn't fix my issue.

    Two key notes
    • Older versions of UnityHub handled this "I can't find the project" gracefully, and didn't present any errors until you tried to open that project on an inaccessible drive
    • I've been using the UnityHub v3 beta since it was first made public, and never experienced this issue until now. I now experience the issue on both 3.0.1 as well as the latest beta version.

Hi, I understood the 2nd part where I to delete the AppData/Roaming folder but I didnt understand what you meant by the 1st part where I need to connect to the proper network.

@Yozora0ryu In the case of my issue, Unity Hub was trying to load info about a project that I had opened in the past, however that project existed on a network drive (not my local machine), so if I tried launching Unity Hub when I wasn't connected to the network with that network drive, Unity Hub would error out looking for a project that it couldn't find. The "proper network" just means whatever network has access to any projects you might have opened that weren't stored locally on your machine.

O man, thanks a lot, I had the same problem with this "Critical Error", but after I read your hint and open logs file, I saw that Unity try to find my project in locked disk (bitlocker), After unlocking the disc with password, all works corectly.
    Thanks

Had this error too. Installed Unity Hub on an untouched win7x64. So I checked the Windows Event Viewer: Windows Logs > Application

    Error 2022-05-22 12:38:16 .NET Runtime 1023 None

    Description: A .NET application failed.
    Application: Unity.Licensing.Client.exe
    Path: C:\Program Files\Unity Hub\UnityLicensingClient_V1\Unity.Licensing.Client.exe
Message: Failed to load the dll from [C:\Program Files\Unity Hub\UnityLicensingClient_V1\hostfxr.dll], HRESULT: 0x80070057
The library hostfxr.dll was found, but loading it from C:\Program Files\Unity Hub\UnityLicensingClient_V1\hostfxr.dll failed
    - Installing .NET prerequisites might help resolve this problem.

And after installing KB3063858 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2019 Redistributable everything went fine.

Since the executables are digitaly signed checking Automatic Root Certificates Update is enabled and certificate store is up to date is probably a good idea too:

I too was getting this error and was completely unable to open Unity Hub and therefore unable to use Unity.

The problem for me was indeed caused by Unity being unable to "see" a project on a network drive that had previously been opened. To find out which project it's unable to see open the log file...

    c:\users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\UnityHub\logs\info-log.json

    and look for lines like...

    {"timestamp":"2022-06-05T19:25:32.943Z","level":"error","moduleName":"App","message":"[\n \"Failed to start Unity Hub, reason: Error: UNKNOWN: unknown error, open '\\\\\\\\192.168.118.88\\\\h$\\\\ProjectName\\\\Game\\\\Project\\\\Project\\\\hubInfo.json'\"\n]"}

...Which was telling me that Unity was unable to access a project on the network at \\192.168.118.88\h$

Navigating to that folder in Windows Explorer was enough in my case to ensure that Unity could see that project it was looking for.

Come on Unity... this is quite a simple one to resolve. Not being able to see a network share should not cause the entire hub app to fail with a "critical" exception.

Hi, I'm having the same critical error with unity trying to access a project in a local drive, but my problem is that I no longer have access the the project nor the drive, I had to change the drive and lost all the info that was there, what can I do?

Ran into that problem when the hub wanted to access a project on an encrypted not yet unlocked drive.

THIS WAS THE FIX!!!! If you have any sort of VPN on your computer, follow these instructions! Delete the roaming file talked about earlier in the thread and connect to the VPN you believe is causing the issue.

Not really a great fix, you'll lose a bunch of settings each time you delete the roaming files.

Does anyone have any other solutions for Mac? I've tried pretty much everything here and Unity Hub still gives me a "Critical Error". It worked perfectly fine yesterday. I've tried deleting it and reinstalling it multiple times and deleting the folders in "Library/Application Support", but it hasn't helped.

Та же проблема, то же решение. Выяснить бы еще причину. Версию хаба я не обновлял перед ошибкой.

After trying the "delete UnityHub folder" method described above to no avail, what worked for me was deleting the "C:\ProgramData\Unity\Unity_lic.ulf" file.
