I was trying to get a cube to emit light according to several tutorials on the Internet, but each and every time I meet different errors all telling me that I don't have enough memory. If I do my own lightning I get this error:
    Code (CSharp):
    1. Clustering job failed for system: 0x1ec93f0dddd2ac88d8f68637c21e5505, error: 4 - 'Out of memory loading input data.'.
    2. The system is running out of memory. Please close applications to free memory or free up space on the partition where the pagefile is located.
    3. Total memory (physical and paged): 32323MB.
And if I reset the Lightning window I get:
Progressive Lightmapper: Material render job skipped - out of system memory.

Why, what is happening? I have 16GB of RAM and 16GB of pagefile. And a simple cube is crashing this entire system?

Your computer probably doesn’t have enough memory to bake the scene you’re trying to bake, and you don’t have enough free space on your main hard drive to make up for it? I mean the error messages seem pretty clear.

That bake is trying to use roughly 32GB of RAM, so unless your computer has like 64GB of system memory (only likely if you have a high end desktop workstation) or you have a lot free on your main hard drive, you’re going to have a problem.

It's my first time actually baking lightning, I typically used realtime. Is this normal that I need double/triple digit GB of memory to bake a lightning map? You make it seem pretty normal and as if I were crazy. This is an insanely simple scene with two cubes.

I guess you don't need 60GB to load the light whilst playing, what is typically output of such rendered map? How much storage and memory does it take? I know its different based on approach, but could you give me a very general idea?

How big are the cubes? How high res are the light maps?

Is it normal to need a ton of memory to bake light maps? Yes.

More than 32 GB for two cubes. Not usually. But there’s not exactly much information in your post to go by apart from the error message. Why are you running out of memory? No idea, probably a bug. Try restarting the editor and try again.

If you're trying to use the GPU lightmapper... don't bother, switch to the CPU lightmapper and it should work.

(There may be combinations of hardware and Unity version on which the GPU lightmapper works decently, but I haven't yet encountered one. Although I'm usually some way behind the bleeding edge when it comes to Unity versions)
