Can you drag a prefab into a scene at a specific position in 3D AND the hierarchy?

As soon as my scene starts becoming somewhat complex, adding new objects is a tangled mess. I try to keep my scenes organized with a series of parent objects to separate sections, lights, geo, gameplay, etc. However there's really no good way of adding objects in this scheme without creating a mess.

    • If I try to drag a new prefab into the scene so that it aligns to a collider, unity will stick the object in the bottom of my hierarchy.
    • If I drag my object into the hierarchy, it just puts the object where the prefab has saved, which is literally never helpful ever.
Is there a way to place the object in the heirarchy at the same layer as the current object that's selected? That really would be a great feature.
