It's a pity Ouya has considered coming out with a `software ouya`, which really seems to be the same death path that the Amiga went down... no more hardware, turned it into software only, dead. I don't want to think Ouya 2 is never coming, and it sure as hell needs a performance upgrade bigtime, but there are already now other microconsoles like the new Razor thing coming out, $99 with far more performance and storage.

I'll wait for the steam box/controller :) Like others have said, it makes more sense to pick the platform based on the games you want to play, for me that happens to be my steam library.

Yes, the Razor Forge, which will use the Adreno 420
The PC library streaming and the VR headset look like interesting developments.

I guess this is the place for it... thread from January hope thats not too old... but at GDC nvidia revealed a shield 'console'... twice as powerul as xbox 360, for $200, with the X1 in it. Kind of like a super beefed up 'Ouya Pro'. Thoughts?

Actually most people buy consoles for the exclusive titles. Titles that you will never get on the PC, God of War, Uncharted etc are never coming to anyother platform other than that of SONY

The graphics has very little to due with hardcore gaming. Sure it means more crap can be thrown around on screen at higher resolutions faster but that is all. And phone games don't even need that power. The games that play best on phones are ultra simple games such as puzzle games and flappy birds and infinite runners. Why? Not because of graphics performance issues but because of the very limited primitive control system. You can buy control accessories for cell phones right now but until it becomes commonplace or better still until it becomes a standard included with phones the games will pretty much suck or be limited to ultra simplistic game play.

I agree. Its about the controls.

I never understood the hype for the Ouya at the time, but maybe in the next few years, these Android consoles might actually chip away some market share from the big 3 if they have some backing of the larger studios. Or if enough "indies" create content that is on par with the large studios.

Ok I haven't read this thread, but the Tegra X1 is a processor not a mobile phone... Nothing says it has to run Android, nothing says it has to be a phone.

Yah not sure what we're talking about phones for, people were talking about the X1 processor. Anyway.. it seems kinda cool... just wonder if it will have the software/development platform to back it up. [edit] i suppose in fairness this thread is titled 'mobile'... which i overlooked and focussed on the X1 part.

Yeah the point put forward in the OP is mobile gaming and specifically about mobile phones killing game consoles.
