    Hi.

I have searched the app store and found no game called Hit The Spot, and I have googled the name and the only thing I found was some old physical game using some kind of board/apparatus and a ball. I am not sure if this old game's name was copyrighted or if it still is.

Does anyone know if using 'Hit The Spot' as an app name is ok?

LoL don't tell everyone, they will grab it.

You could search for it on the stores themselves.

OK if you have a developer licence for an app store you can setup the name of your app and the store will tell you if it is available. I'm not sure if this will reserve it for you.

I'm pretty sure Apple will not accept apps/games which have the same title to that of a pre-existing game...

I'm no IP lawyer, but I don't think this is what copyright is about. This would be a trademark, which is something different, and which should be specifically searchable.

Agree. It is a clever name, and copyright isn't what would protect it. Trademarking is VERY expensive, so the only real protection, is to create your placeholder for the name in the AppStore, which can only be held for 30 (or 60?) days unless you have a product to actually release.
