I'm brand spanking new here so excuse this question if it's obvious. Is there a way to get the camera to orbit around selected object(s) in the editor. Orbiting the origin is great at first but once your scene starts getting larger it gets a little cumbersome.

    Is this possible?

Select an object and press F to focus on it. Then, when you use the view orbit tool, it'll rotate around that object (and its children).

Select the object that you want to orbit around, and push the "f" key while the cursor is in the scene view.

Press 'F' key to focus on the selected object. Then camera orbits around that.

I'm not sure the issue has been clarified at all. What you want to do is select an object to orbit around and hit the "F" key. ;)

I'm not sure, but I have a sneaking suspicion you have to press the "F" key. Not sure where I read that....

OK, I figured it out on my own. Turns out you have to press the 'F' key.

    Thanks anyway!

For any noobs out there, like me, when they say "press/push/hit F key", they mean HOLD the F key down, then DRAG your mouse while HOLDING the Right Mouse Button down.

I am a noob myself but none of the answers were satisfactory to me here but the Unity manual in the Scene View navigation and the Movement shortcuts section was the ticket.

    (1) Select the object you want to orbit
    (2) Press 'F' to focus on it (just press once, do not need to hold down)

    (3) Hold Alt+left-click, then drag (The same action applies to all mouse types, track pads and even for Mac and the one button)

Orbit only works in 3D mode not 2D

Also note that you do NOT have to hold the 'F' key while dragging. Orbiting sort of works if you hold the 'F' key while rotating with the Right mouse button but that's not really orbiting the way Unity suggests. The instructions above work perfectly with a constant distance orbit around the object.

    Since no one mentioned it:

If you select an object and hit shift+f, the scene camera will follow that object (until deselected).

Useful in play mode if you want to follow a moving object in the scene view.

I've just downloaded Unity yesterday and haven't customized anything. Using right-click merely rotates the camera, rather than orbiting a focused object, which is the default behavior in most programs such as Blender. F does not fix this problem.

Also note that the right-mouse button drag orbit is different to the alt-left-mouse button drag orbit.

this works like a charm still for anyone just getting here.

holding RIGHT click and using wasd is good for flying around your scene.

hold alt and dragging with LEFT click will allow you to orbit around what you are focused on.
