The android game that i had created, before updating to the latest version of Unity had a build size of 43 MB. After updating to 2018.3, because of compatibility issues i had to import the unity package to a new unity project.

The only change that i did, was to replace google ads with unity ads. Now, the build size has increased to 56 MB.

I used build report asset to see if any unwanted file had been added. But nothing was found. The max size of different sprites is also the same as earlier. But the build size has increased by 13 MB.

Does migrating to Unity 2018.3 increase the build size of existing projects?

In Addition, Two placeholder images for Unity Ads is being added to the build. I went to "C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Unity\cache\packages\packages.unity.com\com.unity.ads@X.X.X\Editor\Resources\Editor" and deleted both the images. Still they are somehow being added to the build every time.

I did not experience an increase in build sze. What version did you upgrade from?

Are you sure it was 2018.3? Maybe cached a middle version of Unity or the ads package? I reported it much earlier on, but the versions I find in my 2018.3.8 with ads package 2.0.8 has shrunk them down to a barely-acceptable 125KB each (search for portrait.jpg and landscape.jpg).

The version of Unity that i am using is 2018.3. I hadn't used unity ads in earlier versions. I switched to unity ads only after i made by project to work on 2018.3

I had posted about this issue in Unity ads sub forum as well. Credits to sathya for uploading this pic

In my build as well 'Landscape' and 'Portrait' are the files with largest size that are included in the build

I was able to reduce build size by around 8 mb, by reducing sprite size and changing compression quality to normal. This reduced the quality of images a bit.
