Build error, failed running il2cpp.exe

    I'm trying to bring my project and packages up to date and run a test build on an empty scene, but I keep getting build errors.


    Unity version: 2019.3.4f1
    Target framework version: >= 4.7.2
    What I've tried: Deleting the library folder, deleting the il2cpp cache folder, reimport all, restarted pc, run il2cpp as administrator(results in a different error), run unity as administrator.

    No ideas or is there more information I can give that would be helpful?

    This is a known issue in 2019.3.4 - there should be fix coming in 2019.3.5.

    @JoshPeterson Ok thanks, I downgraded from 2020 beta but had editor issues there also. I don't have to build right now, just making sure I have no errors I need to fix.

    I get same problem. now 2019.3.14f1. I did whole solutions OP wrote. Neither worked.

    Can you provide a full error message for the problem you see? I believe this issue was corrected, do you might be experiencing something slightly different.

    Im getting a similar error with unity 2020.1.0f1 previously using 2019.4.3f1 got the same error when trying a stand alone build

    Just wanted to mention I'm having the same issue but with 2020.1.1! Reproducible: create new HDRP scene and try building it.

    As the error message indicates, you will need to have Visual Studio with the C++ workload installed on the computer. Is that installed?

    I found the error was related to the windows firewall, i disabled the firewall and found that everything worked after that

    Hello,

    I have a problem with Android build and Unity 2019.4.8f1.

    I take all my week end to found a solution but nothing change... my project was on Unity 2018.4.5f1.
    The problem persist with a new empty Unity project. Win32Exception[...]/il2cpp.exe

    I try to :
    - Install/uninstall Unity version
    - Change Android NDK path with manual r19 package
    - Update SDK component with Android Studio
    - Install new version of Visual Studio (2019) with Visual studio for Unity component,
    - Install Kits Android SDK with Visual Studio
    - Reimport all Unity package
    - Update Windows 10
    - Check firewall
    - Check antivirus

    Is Unity installed with the same user account that you are using to run Unity? This looks like a Windows permissions error. Unity might have been installed as administrator, and you may be running it with a non-administrator account.

    If that happen, can you try to uninstall Unity and install it as the same account you will use to run it?

    I have only one account on my PC.
    However, i change the parameters in properties to launch Unity Hub and Unity 2019.4.8 as admin.
    Now i have new errors :

    I wonder if the Android NDK is not installed properly. Can you attempt to install it via the Unity hub, if you've not already done that?

    This error looks like it is specific to Emscripten (the C++ compiler for WebGL) on Linux. Can you post it in the WebGL support forums?

    I try to install Unity 2019.4.8 manually but the problem persist.
    I can try uninstall et install again with Unity hub...

    It Works !

    I re-install Unity 2019.4.8 with Unity hub (with admin mode).
    After install I tried a build and I had an error with Unity hub JDK so I use the same to Unity 2018.4.5 (jdk1.8.0_221) and it works fine now !

    I think, there was a problem, when we install Unity with Unity hub without admin mode.
    I don't know why, but when I install Unity hub there was a problem to my priorities level and that was an impact to my Unity installation.

    I'm not sure what is causing this. It is either a bug in IL2CPP or invalid IL code in the PlayerMaker.dll assembly. IF you can submit a bug report with a project that reproduces this, we can have a look at it.

    This failure occurs because the code in the project has extern methods in C#. Methods marked as extern with a the [Dllimport("__Internal")] attribute must be present in a native library that is linked with the Unity player when building with the IL2CPP scripting backend.

    For example, this in this project one function which causes this issue is named: GetBlendShapesInfo

    You have two options:

    1. Build a native library with all of the methods marked as extern with the [Dllimport("__Internal")] attribute for the target platform and architecture of the player. See this documentation for details about native plugins: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/NativePlugins.html

    2. Remove the C# code which defines this extern method. You can do that with platform dependent compilation: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/PlatformDependentCompilation.html

    It looks like you might need to install with Windows 10 SDK. You can install that from the Visual Studio installer, via the C++ workload.

    This looks like it might be a bug in IL2CPP, or it could be some invalid IL code in the EnsignDotnet assembly. Can you submit a bug report that includes this project? You can find bug reporting details here: https://unity3d.com/unity/qa/bug-reporting

    JUllrich is correct. Going to Visual Studio installer, and adding the "Game development with C++" module solved this problem for me as well.

    Hi can you please help me, I install Unity 2019.4.16 lts on my windows 10 it builds il2cpp successfuly.
    But in my mac mojave, I installed too Unity 2019.4.16 when I build using mono not il2cpp, it builds the APK succesffuly. But when I build il2cpp in my mac, it has error Im trying it to an empty project. PLEASE HELP

    It looks like there are some non-ASCII characters in the path to your project. Sometime the Android NDK tools fail in these cases. Can you try to move the project to a path that has only ASCII characters in it?

    Hi!

    I'm just upgraded to Unity 2019.4.23f1 and tried to build my project using IL2CPP. I pressed the Build button on Build Settings Window. After everything is over, there was "Build completed with a result of 'Succeeded' " message in the console window with two error messages. And then, my project folder's location was open instead of give me my APK file. Then, i opened the project folder and there was not any APK file in it again.

    I can't fix. Can you help me?

    This failure occurs because the code in the project has extern methods in C#. Methods marked as extern with a the [Dllimport("__Internal")] attribute must be present in a native library that is linked with the Unity player when building with the IL2CPP scripting backend.

    For example, this in this project one function which causes this issue is named: SmartlookInit

    You have two options:

    1. Build a native library with all of the methods marked as extern with the [Dllimport("__Internal")] attribute for the target platform and architecture of the player. See this documentation for details about native plugins: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/NativePlugins.html

    2. Remove the C# code which defines this extern method. You can do that with platform dependent compilation: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/PlatformDependentCompilation.html

    You need to install Visual Studio (any recent version will be fine) along with the C++ workload.

    I am working on an IoT researchproject at the moment. Whenever I try to build using the il2cpp backend for 64 bit apk it fails to do so even though it shows as succeeded. I have researched and tested through most existing threads about this so I could really use some help from Unity or someone who might have faced a similar issue.

    Unity version for this project was originally 2018.2.21f1 but I have upgraded the project to various Unity versions all the way up to the most recent LTS release.

    I will post more info if anyone needs it but could really use some genuine assistance here.

    This failure occurs because the code in the project has extern methods in C#. Methods marked as extern with a the [Dllimport("__Internal")] attribute must be present in a native library that is linked with the Unity player when building with the IL2CPP scripting backend.

    For example, this in this project one function which causes this issue is named: iOSBleBridgeStartup

    You have two options:

    1. Build a native library with all of the methods marked as extern with the [Dllimport("__Internal")] attribute for the target platform and architecture of the player. See this documentation for details about native plugins: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/NativePlugins.html

    2. Remove the C# code which defines this extern method. You can do that with platform dependent compilation: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/PlatformDependentCompilation.html
