I noticed this issue before, but now I'm building a particularly dark scene it's become an issue. When I move my head quickly the black areas drag and produce an undesired effect. for example looking around a room the black of a dark doorway will lag onto the lit wall as you pan past. I'm using 24bit, and have followed recommended settings.
This is an artifact of the hardware -- the screen can't switch from black to bright fast enough. Most experiences adjust for this in their content and try to avoid deep blacks and/or high contrast.
Provided you mantain similar perceived contrast you can up the overall brightness some and the brain will still perceive darkest as black. These blacker than black OLED panels... one can only see just how black they are when you side by side them with other screen types. Human vision is incredibly adaptive and with VR due to total immersion and no external reference one could take the user on a gradual but quite wide colorspace trip without them even being aware of it.
