With other things being equal, what would be the very best CPU brand for Unity Development/Editor? Would it be something along the lines of an Intel core i9-9900K, or something with more cores & threads like AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX?

I realize that either one would work, but I'm going to build a powerhouse system with the primary purpose of game development, and since I already plan on spending lots of cash, I want the best for my purpose.

If this has already been answered, please point me to the post.

    Thanks.

More cores and threads are what you are after with regards to development. AMD give you more of those at a lower cost than Intel.

Unity is an interesting case where some tasks benefit from single core performance and others benefit from pouring on more cores. If I was building a new workstation right now I'd go with an AMD 3900X or 3950X. Both have per core performance nearly matching Intel's best, but with more cores for the money. Both are also in the same price range of what you already mentioned.

If you're open to even higher priced parts, I'd be considering 3rd gen Threadripper as well, such as 3960X or 3970X. 3960X I don't think is a much higher price than the 2nd gen Threadripper you're already considering.

Hi, I know this post was quite old but I have to ask. Is it worth to use quad channel RAM for Unity (higher memory bandwidth) or it doesn't matter? Will quad channel ram improve significantly my compilaition and asset import time?
