Upcoming Asset Store Character
This will be part of a Forest Animals pack
Oh, I've noticed this threat was moved to work in progress, from Asset Store forum.
I will take this in consideration next time I make a post.
Here is some more bear progress!!
As an animator, I'd be a little worried about the legs. Too short/fat. One solution would be to have floating bones for the foot and knee and let the skinning try to stretch between. That way you could shuffle the feet/knee without introducing rotation and you'd have some stretch. That or attach helper bones to the knee and middle of the leg, but keep an articulated leg hiding under it all.
The head is excellent. Very Disney.
Hey! That's a very good idea! Great technique. I'm going to give it a go
I might still change the proportions as I make the rig.
Gave the bear some color:
Thank you Automoda!! )
I have another 2 cents if you're interested. I like bear legs-- they're like wearing baggy pants. The skin isn't well attached at any point but the paw. I'd have the crotch be a curve with more knee showing and longer feet to prevent it looking like a toddler. You could give some spring in his step if you suggest he's kinda squatted a bit while standing. I've included an image...The rings are bones that you'd skin to and generally keep flat to the ground. The purple bones are suggestion bones... not sure I'd actually attach the rings to them or not. It'd take some experimenting. My leg shape would be more of a pain to skin but it'd be cuter and closer to correct anatomy. You could make them a bit longer and get away with it I think.
Cool! I like this correction, I will use it!
Thanks man!! ^^
This looks awesome! I'm working on my modelling skills and things like this always get me inspiired
A couple things that I would change:
-The folds under the eyes (not the eyelids, the bit before it joins to the snout) are a bit heavy, I think it's mainly due to the shading in the coloured version, I would smooth that out a bit.
-The arms look a little too muscular compared to the rest of him.
Just my opinion of course
Looking forward to seeing more!
Hey Serinx, those are good points. I can soften the lower eyelids. they're in the semi-closed state for texture baking, but once I do the rig I always end up changing a lot of stuff... geometry, texturing. To this day I can't just get it right, right of the bat. But I too believe they're heavy, those baggy eyes gotta go!! :>
Here is some more bear progress
I've changed the legs and reduced baggy eyes, did some more texturing so it matches the style with the fox
Looks a lot better with teeth. I like the belly being lighter...universally makes things cuter. I'd give him some little claws
love your toon series, great work
maybe make a toon forest environment to accompany them? (and a controller to wander around in it)
Thank you Automoda! I may do some added mesh claws and see how it looks, I tried to simply texture them in but they look weird lol. The legs were a nice improvement btw
Thank you Mister D!
I'm thinking on doing update passes after I've populated all the packs. More animations, texture variations, character props. I did think on adding relevant environment props, but it's the first time someone suggest that, though I would like to do that
i just think the more complete the demoscene is u will get better sales. but thats up to u.
keep it up
I like how you think!!
Some bear animation:
Brilliant work! I didn't think it'd turn out so good. Wonderful. How did you end up setting up the skeleton in the legs?
I agree, it's awesome work.
Wow guys, thank you so much!!!
I’ve decided legs setup for now just basic biped skeleton, because Mecanim Humanoid rig is great, but compatibility kind of tricky :S
This is great! Can I ask how long you've been modelling/animating and whether you've done any courses or self taught?
I'd love to get to this level some day.
I did a course and I’ve been doing animation a long time, but times have changed a lot since I started... when I started there wasn’t even internet lol.
You can do a course if you feel you need it ....but with youtube? I think you’re good, if you’re young and start now, guaranteed you’ll reach very high levels of animation skills =)
this is all u need to get started
basicly all 2d but the principals for 3d are the same
Btw I've submitted the bear to the Asset Store, though I need to do a quick update later, I freaking forgot I was going to give him lil bear claws. But for now here's the little test video.
Can't wait until I do some environment props to go with the character, and revamp my demo videos hehe
Well. Gotta say I think your characters are going to be a hit! I thought the meshes were nice, but the animations are even better. Great work. I should try a cartoon character sometime-- looks fun, really.
Thank you bruh!! You should definitely do cartoon, it's a lot of fun, gives you more freedom =)
@dogzerx2 Hey hows it going? Did you end up getting these into the asset store? I did a search but couldn't find them
Sorry about that
They're put as Forest Animals:
@dogzerx2 Thank you!
I saw this come up in the forums and thought they would go really well together:
Great find!! I agree, I'd love to see the two things together :3
