I found this tutorial like 20 minutes ago and book marked it :) Eventually I plan on making something nicer. Looking forward to watching it.

The old Standard Assets are still available here. That includes this skybox as well as eight others from various times of the day.

I'm guessing the reason Unity 5 no longer includes skyboxes by default is because the new system uses the procedural system of converting your directional light into a sun that gets included in the skybox. The old skyboxes don't support this.

Maybe that's why the scene looks so bright? When I went back to the default skybox the colors in the scene looked more normal. Hmmm, is that global illuination or something?

I think it's time to follow your tutorial.

I haven't tried doing anything with old skyboxes since updating to Unity 5, so I can't say. But I know GI uses the skybox for ambient lighting and such, so it's quite possible the old ones would be providing too much light back somehow.

That's got to be it. I've gotten rid of the old skybox images.
