Basic Design Question

    Is it relatively safe to prototype a game that will eventually be developed as an asychronus multiplayer game as a single player game? I don't want to have to focus on the multiplayer elements, such as networking, and databases until I am confident the basic gameplay is sound. Are there any pitfalls in this approach?
