I started a new project. I created a new Button. The hierarchy view looks good with the Button beneath the Canvas and the Events system. However, in the Scene, there are some issues:

    1. The Canvas does not display any anchors.
    2. The Button does not show within the Canvas when the Canvas is selected.
    3. The Button has no image, just the bounding rectangle.
    4. If I have other objects such as a plane and sphere in the screen, the Canvas is created very far from the objects. So if I click on the objects, I don't see the Canvas in the vicinity and vice versa.

I am using 4.6.0b17. Attached are the screenshots. What am I missing?

    Thanks in advance.

Of course not. What would it anchor to? It's the top level.

Unless it's a World Space, the Canvas is in its own little world. It's always at (0,0) and always sized to match the screen, which means its huge. This sounds like the expected behavior.

I can't answer 2 or 3, although they do seem like the same issue.

    1. Sorry. I meant the Button anchor. The flower symbol doesn't show.

    2. All the tutorials I have seen create the Canvas in front of the current scene. All of them show the current scene in the lower left corner of the Canvas. This is not so in my case.

    Thanks

Never mind. It is the Unity install that is messed up. Posting a separate thread.
