    Hey guys,

I'm working on a new game idea at the moment and I just made a quick prototype for what the game will be like as far as its main mechanic will go. I was wanting to get some feedback if possible:

(Control buttons written into the page)

In particular I am wondering if the mechanic of hitting the ball into the object can have the potential to be fun/addictive, or is it just plain annoying? Try and think purely on that single mechanic, it's just a prototype! (Though I couldnt resist at least making it a little bit prettier than just solid colours :p)

    Thanks

I think a game like this would be cool on I-phone, if we can rotate/move the paddle by rotating/moving the device.

Yeah, actually while I was coming up with a game idea I looked at a lot of iPhone games. At the end of the day I would love to bring it onto the iOS platform, but I think working on an iOS game is a lot more difficult than a desktop game - since you have to worry about draw calls, poly count, etc. I have a strict time limit on this (University) project so I figured it'll be better to do it for desktop first and then port it to iOS when I have time

It's awesome and original. But a little bit too easy :p
and the scrolling is annoying. But for the rest I think it's a good game ! :D

Well in the future I will have more difficult targets, perhaps moving ones, and some timed ones so you need to hit them quickly.

Would you have any suggestions on how I could make it less annoying? Do you mean the whole idea of rotating the paddle is annoying or just the fact that you have to use the scroll wheel? If it's just the scroll wheel, what would you suggest as an alternative way to rotate?

    Thanks! :D

I really liked this and think it is a really great start, well done!

A couple of little things to add to your fix list:
    1. If you hold the mouse button down, the paddle 'jiggles' a bit but the hitting the ball still goes on. Maybe change is so it only gives 1 hit when you first press the mouse and doesn't let you hit again until the mouse button has been released.
    2. If you rotate the paddle upside-down you can boost it right off the bottom of the screen.

    Great stuff all round,
    Matt.

Ah, I didn't notice the holding mouse button thing, but I did knew about the upside down thing. I am planning to limit the amount you can rotate so that won't be an issue later. But again it's just a prototype so it doesn't matter yet :)

    Thanks man :)
