Bad UI (Unity 2018.2.18f1 64-bit): adding property to animation + buttons hidden

I encountered this infuriating behaviour as I was trying to add properties to animate. The + buttons were hidden for me by default and double clicking doesn't work. It took me a second to realize I had to scroll to the right to reveal the add buttons. I asked a friend and he told me he has the same issue on his machine. My screen resolution is 3840 x 2160 if that has anything to do with it.
