Unity is one of the most famous Game Engine for Indie and Pro which they offer a free "Personal License" for commercial use when developer meet certain requirements. Recently Unity secretly added a "Trial Version" watermark for game that build with "Personal License" and this watermark is targeting China/Taiwan/HK developer only. Unity must know having a "Trial Version" watermark on a game is 100% stopper for publishing on AppStore. When Indie developer can't publish using Unity "Personal License", this is equivalent to canceling "Personal License" in China/Taiwan/HK. And push all affected developer to purchase a paid license. Some developer have reached out to Unity and get respond a week later. Unity is asking Indie developer to submit their app for further review and remove the watermark case by case. "...we are using trial version watermark for Unity Personal to prevent crack versions and protect our legal paid users rights. If you are an Indie user who didn't reach an annual earning of $100k, contact us when you need to make your game & we will help you to remove the watermark. This is done case by case." It happen 10 days ago and till now Unity still have no official announcement on how such an action can prevent crack. Unity also didn't give further detail on why is it only target China/Taiwan/HK developer and how Unity will review their app case by case to remove watermark. Some affect developers, who can't wait for Unity's respond, have already forced to purchase a paid license.
