Asylum 33D Horror Project. Also on Kickstarter!

Hey guys. I'm working on a horror project called Asylum 33D. Please take a look.

Was asked to move it into Works In Progress. Otherwise would have kept the other one updated.

 

The other was in the Unity Gossip section. On another note... as a backer for this project I've been talking with / working with Zen and it's a pleasure. This looks like a really cool project.

 

I'll be posting short character profiles over the next few days. The goal is to start introducing the characters of "Asylum 33D" so you get to know them better.

Today, we start with Ben Dawkins.




Ben was born in 1999 to Jack, an alcoholic father, and Laura, a working mom. Growing up, he was prone to being seeing fights between his mother and father, usually over the matter of his father's alcoholic habits. On one night in particular, while his mother was at work, Ben's father sent him to bed early for some strange reason. He awoke to the shrieking of his mother coming through the bedroom walls. As the words began to make sense to him, he realized his mother was yelling at his father for finding another woman in their bedroom. Ben didn't dare leave his.

Ben figured from the screaming that after bringing another woman home, his father and the woman ended up falling asleep in his parents bed. When his mother later returned to find them there, the fight erupted. He never saw his father again. Somehow, in the process of throwing out his father's bottles of alcohol and liquor, Ben discovered Laura pouring herself a cup of wine. From the smell though, he could tell it wasn't her first glass. Terrified from how his mother appeared, and knowing how his father had been due to his drinking, Ben immediately pulled the cup from his mother's hand, grabbed the bottle of wine off the table, and immediately smashed both into the kitchen sink.

His mother, initially shocked at Ben's behavior, began weeping as she understood his actions. She hugged Ben tightly, and though one might think it was his mother's grasp that stayed with him, it's really the smell of alcohol on her breath he still remembers. The following weeks saw his mother take to cooking, and in time she ended up becoming an excellent chef. Ben thought this may have been because of her shame for letting Ben see her as she was, but he could never be sure.

What he was sure about was that he was getting fresh, restaurant quality food every night. And boy was it good!

It's then that his weight exploded. In just a year, he gained 40 lbs. The following year, he gained another 35 lbs. By the time he entered high school, he may have well as been the fattest kid there. He tried going on diets, but more often than not, his mother didn't accommodate his efforts by placing ever growing plates of food in front of him. Unable to help himself (it's the smell that REALLY got to him), Ben kept eating.

One afternoon, not too long after school started, the heckling about his weight started. Ben was pretty good at ignoring them because the words couldn't hold a candle to the weight of what his father had said to him so long ago. Upset they weren't getting to him, the bullying got physical. That didn't last long either because Corey, another freshman, involved himself and told them off. Astonished by having someone would stand up for him, Ben immediately became attached to Corey.

Not soon after, Ben started to accompany Corey on his crazy trips to abandoned wood cabins, haunted roads, and other derelict locations. Though often terrified and exhausted from these trips, he enjoyed the sense of camaraderie with friends. The has caused some distance between Ben and Laura. She claims that Ben might get injured on these trips, and though this has tempered some of his enthusiasm, it hasn't killed it.

So what's up next on the list from Corey? A place called Asylum 33D.
