    Hello,

So I joined this company which one of the partners passed away months ago and in his belongings it was found a copy of one Unity project. This project was done by a freelancer who is not part of the company and we do not trust him at all.

This project is functional, but I was checking it asset by asset and I noticed that not all assets are free and we have no idea who paid for these assets, the company has no spending bills about them.

What do I do? How do I check who those assets belong to?
I'm dead serious, sorry if this is a dumb question.

The answer seems obvious. The freelancer bought them.

Unity doesn't have logging built into project folders to see which Unity account downloaded the assets unfortunately, but if they aren't on any of the company accounts, and the company has no record of buying them, then your company doesn't have license to them.

  3. Also check the contract, it should contain the information how third-party services / assets should be handled, who is responsible for acquiring them and whom will they belong to. Also should contain the deliverable itself (source project or executable).
