    Already? Geez, Ubisoft.

Given the state of AC:U's release, my expectations are set low. Very low.

Was AC:U really that much of a flop?

Hard to say ... the PC version did have lots of performance problems.

Assassin's Creed Unity and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare both got low user scores from Metacritic and Steam. Then again, they both made the top of the Steam top sellers list.

A lot of it has to do with expectations. Black Flag was very good, as were the early Call of Duty games.

CoD:AW is still one of the top 15/20 games broadcasting on Twitch. Even with negative reviews, because of the fanbase and because of CoD being ahead of the FPS genre, I just can't see it as a failure.

I would have expected AC:U to have similar leeway, but it seems like the game has essentially fallen off of Twitch's radar. Whenever I'm scrolling down through the twitch directory, I only see maybe 30 people at most streaming AC:U... and it wasn't released very long ago. I've also heard some complaints that there are rendering glitches.

I don't really know. It was just surprising to see AC:U go from several thousands of viewers in the first 2 days of release to a couple hundred maybe a week after release... and now it's practically unseen in the top 50 games watched on Twitch.

Sure, but CoD is a "hardcore" game with competitive play and lots of replayability. Once you've seen/played through an AC game once, unless you want to do the little side bits that's really all there is to see. I can understand it dropping away once most people have seen what they wanted of it, regardless of its state on release (though being in a better state would perhaps mean a higher peak audience and such).

Anyway, I expected to see another AC game next year. That's what you get of games with yearly release cycles - it's been that way since ACII, hasn't it? And, by the way, Brotherhood was one of those yearly cycle games and it was great. Revealations was also pretty good, with its main detracting point being how long that particular story arc was dragging on - it was cool and it was still adding new stuff to the franchise, and Ezio is a cool character, but by that point I was really feeling like a different kind of environment would be nice.

Yeah pretty much this. If you look at the Twitch top 10, it's usually made up of either multiplayer games or something with a lot of replayability, such as a roguelike.

But you also have some big AAA "story" games that stay there for about a week then fall off, such as Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Watchdogs, and Shadow of Mordor.

Ubisoft's stock dropped 9% following its release.
I don't own it myself, but I'm really glad I stayed away from it. I've heard that the game has horrendous performance issues and numerous bugs that make it unplayable for a lot of people.

It sounds like you're taking like some kind of natural disaster or maybe a war.

I play AC:U on my PS4 and am enjoying myself a lot.

Yes there are some framedrops, yes there has been a crash.. but overall performance (on ps4) is good. And it is a good game. I will definately be playing the next iteration as well!

Hah, imagine if you lived in Australia... It'd have been a fair bit more than $60!

I do live in Australia, and it probably would have been around $80-$100 had I bought it from my local EB Games. Fortunately there are websites we can buy from where we don't get screwed over.

Assassin's Creed has been one of my favorite recent franchises. I've played all the past ones to the end, something I very rarely do anymore with games. After hearing about all the issues (particularly the unnecessarily god-like hardware you apparently need to even get playable FPS on PC), I haven't even considered buying AC: Unity. It looks really awesome, but I'm not touching it until they (hopefully) fix it.

Even digital downloads? Are they more than USD 60 (i.e. about AUD 70)? If so, that's outrageous given that there are no shipping costs to the other side of the world...

Far Cry 4 is currently going for $75USD ($89.58AUD) on Steam for me. Digital stores vary a lot on prices, but if you look around you can generally find new releases for about $50-$60 AUD.
