I am new to Unity and I am still wondering which I should learn first. Should I learn c# or javascript? And I am also wondering what programs I should use for my art and animations. I want to make more 2d games than 3d. Because I am planning on mostly making indie games.

Actually I can't tell you what to learn first, but I can tell you what I did as I started.

    1. C# works great for me I tested it at my mobilephone and windows. You also find a lot of tutorials on YouTube with C# so I never thought about to learn some more Java. Just take a look at Brackeys and Blackthorn prod on Youtube it really helps to start with the tutorials and understanding how the engine works. (Especially when you started with ue4 like me)

    2. Photoshop and Illustrator are really good, but it's not for free. A pretty good alternative to PS is Gimp just check it out.

    3. Animations are a little bit more difficult I think. You can create Spritesheets, work with thirdparty software or use unity built in animation editor.
If you've some budget left: Spine2D is a great software I really recommend it, it's easy to learn. There also free alternatives like Spriter. But there are also a ton of tutorials on YT for the built in editor as well.

I think it's worth mentioning that C# is the only programming language Unity supports now.

For 2D i can recommend Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. Both are not free, but they are 1 time payments and have a reasonable price.
