Username : Tenebrous banned me in irc after insulting me because of a poor biased attitude when I asked a simple question about setting my Xcode project's name with some parameters ( renaming ) with

"it's the first post in google attitude."

I fired back after being told it was the first google answer.
My system must have another issue other than the first google issue.
I tried it a few times and it failed to compile.
I figured I could go to the chat and get assistance.

Why would Unity3d as a commercial enterprise company make something of the irc network so important, exposed to "non commercial", "non authorized" silly little boys with a foul attitude deal with paying customers?

This is in case i am assuming that the company has hired Tenebrous as a representative of Unity3d.
Is that the case? He spoke and acted on your behalf... He banned a paying customer from a service after being spoke to like it was my problem and that the first google response will solve it.

Are you trying to make it worse for your customers?
If you want people to stop paying in advance for versions, that is the perfect storm.
I don't appreciate being treated like a dickhead with my questions in the chat.

If you had googled it, you'd know that the IRC is a community effort.

You need a good gut and a jaw made of steel when joining any irc channel. You see people when given power much like the power the irc admin had wield that power at a whim. Why? Because the last spot they burst on their face made a mess of their glasses. It also meant they had to move off their chairs and venture in to the toilet to clean their glasses. Being banned though from the household loo as every time they visited it their parents said strange noises would occur from within, multiple times a day, they had to move in stealth as not to allow suspicion they were visiting the loo for any other reason than to wipe their glasses.

So, never underestimate the power that an IRC admin has even when you have done nothing wrong. For example if you were banned for no reason it was probably a mistake by that admin as he had only one hand available at the time and missclicked.

    Or so they say......

Yeah, I don't think there's an official IRC channel. If you need support, you need to contact Unity Tech directly. Even these forums don't always get answered by Unity Tech, and it's mainly a community effort.

My advice is to provide a sample project that will show the "bug" and report it.

Are you going to hold UT responsible for the Unity tumblr community's actions, too?

Yeah I'm friends with at least one of those dickhead mods :) Do you not think this is a grotesque over reaction or something?

Btw you should google dickhead mods. It's the first answer on google.

FYI like the Unity skype group, the IRC is run by volunteers who put their personal time into it in order to provide an alternative place to get help or hang out with other Unity users. By entering the chat channel, you accept that it's a 3rd party and will just have to abide by their rules. It's not Unity's fault.

The IRC is community driven and nothing officially to do with Unity, this is like coming in here to complain about the bar and grill chat.

If you still have your initial problem please start a new thread and I'm sure people would be more that happy to help :D.

I love the IRC's dickhead mods, tbh. Even more than the non-dickhead ones. <3

Pff. We should just ban everyone from there and have it return to those 12-16 members in there when things were cool ;)

I mixed a message into that joke though.

The channel *has* grown insanely over the years. Moderation these days is slightly more of a challenge than when you could easily brew a pot of tea and have lunch before the screen would scroll.

This has meant that conversations in general fly much faster, messages are easily missed and misunderstood and none of that is probably very healthy over time - leading to mods shooting from the hip, ulcers and a terrible electronic music taste.

I am sure you did not realise this and that is why you chose to go on the forum to raise hell after tweeting at the CEO of the company whose user base runs the channel. Not the most productive choice, but I understand - seeing as you just came from that mad speed text hell.

With that in mind, would you be willing to be open for the possibility that this same environment might have affected the volunteer in the same manner - causing him to perhaps be a little sensitive? And that similarly, that environment might have caused you to sharpen your demeanour in there more than you initially intended?

As an aside, on the topic of utech running that channel, I am quite certain that would be a bad or costly idea - seeing as you would simply swap the volunteers for employees - subject to the exact same environment.

Not to mention the hazard pay.
