For anyone who isn't aware, if you are looking to 'Collaborate' (Find a team, hire employees, or anything that results in collaborating with fellow members in terms of actually developing a game) it is no longer allowed in the forums, you must go to

    https://connect.unity.com/

There you can find jobs, hire people, find fellow devs who want to work with you for free or take a percentage when the game is sold.

Mods/Admins this post really should be stickyed, being new comers just aren't getting the message about Connect. Easier to just direct them to this post, instead of repeating it 45 times a week.

I just looked around and noticed its hiding like you said.
On the Connect page it says its still in beta, so maybe thats why.

But if they disallow job posting here they should drop the beta idea.

I agree it should be made more obvious, but it is in the banner at the top of the screen with a coloured link. I think the issue is that the message isn't where people look when they're looking for job boards. Personally, I think I'd put the link to the job boards back exactly where it was, but instead of going to the job boards it should go to Unity Connect, possibly via a page that explains what's going on.

But, didn't we get job postings in General even when the job boards were where they used to be? I've said this a bunch of times before, but I'll say it again - some kind of automated thing based on keywords before you post a message is probably the way to go.

@Tzan : Exactly. There should at the very least be a link in the header like everything else.

@angrypenguin : That's strange I don't get any colored link in the header (except on the forums if I am really really really looking for it) right above the search bar as it's very small and out of place (and not colored). I honestly forgot it was even there.

Would automated stuff be difficult to add? Seems like it would be more work than it's worth... But at the least like you said, but the jobs forum back and make it go directly to connect.

I mean we had the occasional job question in general before, but nothing like it is now.

I'm referring to this, in the announcement banner:
    upload_2018-1-30_10-12-48.png

    No idea.

It seems to be good enough for Google to check if an email contains the word "attached" and then check if you've actually attached something. It's not 100% accurate, but it doesn't need to be because forgetting an attachment is apparently more common than talking about attaching things in other contexts.

There are more phrases that are more complicated in this case, so it's undoubtedly more difficult to get it perfect. But I suspect that a semi-effective filter would still help a lot of people. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be significantly better than nothing.

I wonder if the presence of more than X keywords from a list in a single post could trigger a dialog that asks if you're looking for work. If yes, tell them about Unity Connect. If no, go away and continue as normal.

Cool. That's my impression too, I just wasn't sure if I was imagining it.

When you click the "Community" link, there should be a panel of info there with a link.
Then on that bar with "Forums Answers Feedback ... " there should be a link there.

    Just common sense really.

To people like me that actually makes it less visible, because normally the information I seek is never the big colorful thing on a website, so I tend to ignore everything that isn't "normal" text.

I think this could work and at least cut down the number of threads being made. I was gonna jokingly suggest to make it like "Clippy", but a simple popup message would probably be enough.

It's not just you. I think the internet trains us to tune out things that don't fit with the rest of the page they're in because that stuff is usually an advert or something like that.

I need to hire some people today, and since the job posting section here has been shut down, I figured I'd try Connect. Less than a minute in and I noped right back out. What a mess. I'll find people elsewhere from now on, sad to say. I mean, to even find Connect I had to look in the footer of the site, all the way down in the Resources section. Come on.

Yeah, I'd rather have a good old job posting board like we had previously. Hard to find who is available or easily make a simple post with the new system.

Yeah I found the forums to be much easier to find stuff quickly.
Not that I ever did many jobs, it was just nice to sometimes go through it and look at the stuff people were hiring for

I'd generally go there and see if there was new technologies that were in demand, or perhaps some new type of work flow I could find out and learn about lol.

I tried connect, it was not as good as the commercial forum we had here. Sometime simple things are better.

One problem is simply the name "Unity Connect". It is right above the general discussion forum, but general discussion keeps getting team building posts by people who appear to not be familiar with Unity. Unless they read the fine print description, for all they know "Unity Connect" might just be the name of Unity's networking API.

I would bet if they just changed that forum title to "Job Market - Unity Connect" it would cut down 80%+ of these postings. One line text changes are the best code changes ;)

It's worse than that. It doesn't go to Unity Connect, it goes to a forum section where people can talk about Unity Connect.

That is to say, it is easier to find a forum section about it than it is to find Unity Connect itself...
