Why do you even care? If the beta is good enough to release a game, then release it, and if it's not, then don't. Taking the word "beta" off of it at a random point does nothing. The only thing the "beta" label actually affects is WebPlayer, and the web player has probably less than a year to live anyway so you should already be migrating.

I care because I want to know if its close to completion and if there are further changes expected or not.
Some people actually prefer not to release or use beta software for final releases like myself.

I think we are close, for many reason :
    - we got over 5 or 6 public beta
    - The beta 21 is quite stable,
    - Unity 5 Beta is out now
    - Unity 4.5 got a lot of iterations, more than usual.

I'm not so confident, we're still in (not so stable) beta, I think that 2 or 3 RC have to come before a final release. I hope that we'll have a final release before the end of the year but I'm not really confident...

Still no mention or sight of BETA 22 - we desperately need this build.
Yes Unity 5 is out now but this does not include the uGUI changes, lot stuff missing, so again no use to people who started making GUI with 4.6

It's a pertinent question, as even though I have a 4.6 proof build of our current project I'd rather stick with 4.5.5, as I don't think the 4.5.5 patch updates are included in the 4.6 beta (no idea about 5). It would be nice to get a rough handle on progress.

I understand but I used 4.6 GUI and if you try and run the build on 4.5.5 or any build without 4.6 GUI will cause a crash. So made a mistake of using uGUI in a new project, because to be honest couldn't wait another year until the release was done and was no point me learning NGUI when in future will use uGUI..

Sure - I was actually agreeing with you vs @JAKJ

We're not quite at the implementing UI stage yet for instance, and while we do use NGUI otherwise, I'd like move on to uGUI for this job -- but yeah, it would be a commitment that's hard to undo once started, so I understand your position.

If your game is done, and does not have any showstopping bugs from the beta, and it's not reliant on the web player, then there is no reason you shouldn't use the beta to publish your final.

It's not about if we can build it with the beta or not, its called trust issues

Aren't those for girlfriends more than software?

You test it, if it passes the testing, you're good to go. What's to trust?

Why is this argument even happening? Each one of you know that Unity will not support production with beta. Each one of you know that Unity won't give a schedule for beta or production releases.

Its not a argument for first and second its happening because if you followed the forums and history of the engine there are many people out there who been waiting for the new GUI features to be stable for a very long time. Maybe also your not a paying customer and using free version so it would not annoy you when one has buggy releases as much.

Unity 5 Beta 12 just been released I check if it includes the UI changes as no official mention, if so I be happy they finish the beta testing phase as 21 betas is already a large amount

Unity 5 beta 12 does not include 4.6 beta 21's UI.

RC2 contained a handful of bug fixes, I assume this could be the build before final..:)

I still get GC crashes in desktop builds (but not in the Editor), so I hope there's at least one RC more before the final release.

Any build labeled "RC" could be the final build, if showstopping bugs aren't found with it. Based on what I'm seeing on this forum, though, I'm guessing this one isn't - some significant performance issues with the Web player, among other bugs.

Seems RC3 is this weeks small build, next week final I hope.

"AFAIK we're not doing any more 4.5 releases, as 4.6 is planned to be released next week. Also it could be that this fix will not make initial 4.6, as there was resistance to merge latest 4.5 fixes to avoid delaying 4.6. So further plan is to have a 4.6.0p1 next week after 4.6, and then 4.6.1 a week after that."

I see RC3 is still equivalent to 4.5.5f1. It would be really nice if they bring it up to 4.5.5p4 equivalency, as there have been a lot of fixes since.
