I was just curious how often you see the Unity splashscreen when downloading apps or playing games.

Do you believe it is mandatory for a developer to buy Pro, to get rid of the Unity splashscreen?

What do you think about that Unity splashscreen, that can only be removed with Pro? A big deal? Nothing at all?

Is removing that splashscreen worth $1500 to you?

We used unity free for our first game and I don't have any issues with the logo. I don't think anyone cares as long as the actual game is good.
P.S. There was a funny video review of our game where the guy said something along the lines of: "Overall the game is cool. Perhaps its only drawback is that it's made in Unity3D, which... uhm.. is not really a drawback". So, as I said, if the game is good, I don't think that splash screen has any impact. Buying the license just to get rid of the logo, imho, is not worth it.

That's a good question, I'm interested specifically for desktop games. That makes me wonder if integrating Steam's Steamworks is strictly required (as that would need Pro). I don't think I've seen the Unity splash screen in any of the desktop games I played.

It's just disgusting that someone would even say that. I guess it's because so many crappy games have been made with Unity (because of the free version) that people think Unity games are crap.

They do think that. I remember reading a forum about one of those sites that hosts web player games. I'm not sure which one it was now. But someone was asking why all Unity games suck. Of course, someone corrected him and pointed out that Unity is just a tool and it's the developer that determines whether a game sucks or not. But I'm not sure it sunk in.

That said, we just released our first game with Unity free and I don't mind the splash screen at all. As others have said, the game stands on its own merits.
