It's a PC, what should you have problems with?

Personal suggestion, build your own pc, it is cheaper and you get better parts.

It's a console, which uses a custom interface so you're able to play games through steam.
From the looks of it you can't access Windows, so I'm guessing you can't even use unity on it.

Edit: Just saw screens that show that you can use Windows. But then the question is: Why would you want to develop on a machine that's meant to be a console?

the GPU is a modified version of a 860m , so regular nvidia drivers wont work .. it is alienware(Dell) who updates the drivers .. and i am a bit concerned about that.

Maj : I just read that Alienware has requested a Material ID from nvidia for the alpha .. so it should solve the drivers issues :)

Isnt it a steam machine which measn you can install windows on it and use it as a "normal" PC ??

EDIT: nvm it seems to be a win 8 machine with a custom UI. so you should be able to use it for unity but again why ? :)

because i want to develop for PS4 ... and the alpha is about exactly the same power ... so i think the combo Unity/Alpha makes an interesting choice if one doesnt have access to a PS4 dev kit. And it is cheap , easily transportable, very low energy consumption , very small size , very silent ...

Wat. You need a dev console to develop for the ps4. Plus, you could get a much better machine for the price of the alianware alpha. You also need to take into account that you will be running unity as well as the game, possibly your script editor of choice (some are not generous on your CPU) and your modelling program of choice. I don't think they will run well with the CPU on that machine.

Actually the price for the Alpha is quite competitive and Dells profit margin is rather low on this machine (EU/Germany at least - 499EUR). If you were to build a mini ITX system with about the same specs, power consumption and noise levels you can easily break the 500EUR mark.
