Got any higher quality images? That one is a 100 pixel image. Can't really see the quality (old school) lighting from that image.

Maybe add fog with a bit of blue tint, and then play around with light settings
Window tab > Lighting [and there you have fog and lighting and other render settings

well I've been spending weeks on the lighting settings and light baking stuff and it really doesn't work... I think I should find some kind of shader that uses flat shaded textures with some kind of overlay map for the shadows or something. I don't even think that exists...

Perhaps some screenshots of your results along with your settings might be more helpful to get you some guidance.

    However, here are some observations:

It looks like fog is configured to match the skybox color with a fairly near start distance.

It looks like the trees cast shadows onto themselves, but not onto each other or the terrain.

Many of the detail meshes on the ground don't look like they cast or receive shadows.

    good observation!
I think I know why everything is so hard for me... I'm trying to get a very flat shaded exterior and in the same scene at the same time a very contrastful interior. I think I might use some post effects to get those two in the same scene.

I have made something like this.
If i would change the skybox color and then mess up a bit more with light it could look similar i think

well that's the typical unity look :p the trees shouldn't get that weird back shadow.. and that's what my problem is.. weird hard shadows that doesn't feel right.
