Why do you want to make a game and throw it out on Android if you actually have no game that you want to make?

It was always my dream to have a game online where people can play it when I was 6 but did not have any ideas :p

Like you just wanted to have a game out there just for the sake of having a game out there?

I guess it is kind of like some people want to write a book but they have no idea what they want to write about. I always think well then why do you want to write a book?! But yeah I guess that is fairly reasonable.

Probably because I loved playing games and I thought that it would be so cool to have x feature in game and others will enjoy it too.
    Something's don't need a reason...

Well that makes complete sense to me because you just gave a common and valid reason. Because you wanted to improve on certain types of games by adding X to them.

Okay well OP I never intend to troll. I was truly just wondering. But that is neither here nor there as far as what you asked so...

How about a game where you are a pen normally chained to a reception counter next to a sign in sheet. A minute ago something incredible happened... the chain broke! Now you can escape. After months of being chained to that counter you are FREEEEEE!

Now your goal is to make it to the other end of the long counter avoiding the hands being placed on the counter and the obstacles that litter the counter top.

You're asking a community of developers. Anything we believe would be fun we would most likely put on there ourselves.

Because having a book you have written sitting on your shelf is awesome.

Did I mention anywhere I wrote a book?

Not that I know of but congrats on that! :)

I guess my question is did you have something you wanted to write about or did you simply want to write a book with no subject in mind & asked other people which topic you should write about?

Honestly it first started because I was complaining about how terrible a book I was reading was at the time. A girl I though was cute commented that I probably couldn't have done any better. That was over a decade ago. But I've finally got a printed book in my hands, and that lets me call myself a writer.

So taking that lesson back to the OP's question, why not look at simple games that are already in existence. Then ask "how could I make this better?"

Makes a lot of sense and a good story!

Yeah there are tons of ideas for games. I know there are many people who have a difficult time coming up with ideas though. Heck there is training available on how to be more creative.

I think a lot of the time people struggling to "get ideas" are just overthinking it. Like they want a perfect idea before they even begin. I honestly believe a person can (and will sooner or later) take a classic game such as Space Invaders, customize it making it their own and have a smash hit.

Anything is workable with the right ideas. Attack of the Alien Beer Bottles. Rows of beer bottles marching back & forth dropping lower and lower. Maybe for an added twist after destroying the bottles you must catch the contents. Could show the player characters head growing big gulping down the beer.

I could see this being a way to educate about slavery, escaping & using the underground railway (maybe other items on the counter help or hinder you while people are hunting for where the pen is as they need one etc). Add in the initial transportation to the shop/bank & separation from others of the pens production batch (family) & you can include people trafficking. Done well the idea actually has a lot going for it.

I have a game in prototype (paper) & have no idea for a name. I went to some random game name generators & instead of it helping me I got distracted & ended up with ideas (very loosely) based on what the generators spat out. So, find some of those websites & see what inspiration they can give you.

How about a game that gives me free brownies. I don't know how it'll work, that's your job.

    Brownies must be fresh.

You mean like steam greenlight. I just saw a game where the goal is to beat your kid to a pulp until the cops come. Apparently the "dev" thinks this is a laughing matter dismissing it as satire.

    Well, not really.

That person is obviously a complete twat, but he at least had an idea and executed it.

I'm sure person would feel differently if he had his own spawn.

Make a tetris or snake game. In four dimensions.

    -----------

As long no real people were hurt in the process.... everything is a laughing matter when the genre is "Black Comedy".

haha, I don't understand what drives people to be that way but it is amusing to observe.

So every x amount of seconds, the game splits into an additional timeline? Or do you mean that the edges of the geometry will be 3d objects?

The latter sounds hard on the eyes, but the former sounds kind of fun. Your score is how many snakes you have alive at the end of some arbitrary time limit and every 10 seconds your screen splits and 1 of the snakes takes a random turn.

Might steal that. Probably won't make a game out of it, but I like the idea of a simulation where it continually splits into different points with a variation of some action :D Might not use unity for that though. Sounds a little excessive.

I was thinking the 4d Tetris game was interesting. Every x-seconds the game splits into another game with different key mappings for each screen. The split timer gains time every row you clear. Object is to see how long you can last & what score you get. Game is over when any piece on any Tetris game reaches the top of the game area.

I might have to talk to the programmer I work with........

No, I mean it will be done in four-dimensional euclidian space.

If you count "time" as dimension it'll be 5th one.

That's not 4d tetris, it is "multiverse tetris" or something.
People are not good at parallelizing task, so the user will be probably able to handle 2..4 simultaneous sessions top.
You could still give it a try, though.

Tetris took over this universe, now it's aiming for the multiverse!!!!
I sent a message, I'm waiting to be smacked down :)

@Skypiggy flappybird had one mechanic & it can be argued a lot of other popular games have one mechanic (maybe supported by other minor ones) like endless runners. Think of one mechanic & then see if you can make a game around it. Start by prototyping it with the basic mechanic on primitives & play the hell out of it to see if it is actually fun at any stage then expand from there.

I have played a platformers where the key mechanic was duplication. The doppelgängers all responded to the same input. The game had objectives like "make it to the exit with at least 50% of your clones".

I'm thinking of a 3d game where there's loads of platforms and you have a ball and have to get to the finish and theres multiple levels!

Check out BrainFrog on Yoda's Video Arcade (one of my favorite game sites btw -- I always wanted to have a little site like this with very simple & fun games.... one of these days when I am not working on bigger games I will do that)!

It is kind of like what you are describing except controls are the same and you literally play through multiple areas at the same time. First Area. Then First + Second Area. Then 1, 2 & 3 and so on. Until eventually you are playing across 16 different "screens" simultaneously.

This guy knows how to make excellent games.

Okay so I go to the gym alot and do the treadmill, and its boring but what if you gamified it. Imagine theres an ipad to look at while your running, now every once and a while theres a zombie or something chasing after you and unless you go faster then x-speed he gets you and kills you - and the treadmill stops. now that would be awesome. And you could sell it the gyms.

I've seen that one. So, geometry with 3d faces then.

    2d object => 1d faces
    3d object => 2d faces
    4d object => 3d faces

It's strange that time has to be in the hierarchy at all. 2d and 3d objects can both exist over time :D

I think there are apps similar to this for jogging etc. I know my sister-in-law has an audio one she uses that is like a survival zombie thing where she is receiving instructions etc from people on the radio link as well as just listening into their discussion. It has audio jump scares where someone who can 'see' her shouts a warning about a zombie. Apparently when you are in the zone it can really scare you enough to require a change of pants.

When I went to the gym in the 90's some rowing machines had screens so you raced the person next to you.

Still, definitely worth looking at if you can get 1 gym to set it up even without integration to the machines.

    Enders Game Battle Room.

Unfortunately that wouldn't be very simple, I've just always wanted to make it and never have :p

In all seriousness, how about a game like pong, but there are moving blocks over the net that you have to miss as well.

@tedthebug I had a zombie gps app once that was like regular gps navigation but it added zombies to the route so you had to take alternate routes or they would get you. Probably not too safe though because if you get immersed you might start speeding.

Just saying that "idea's" does not have an apostrophe in it.

Unless you are a British baker or grocer, in which case you can add as many as you like.

I'll use game name generator and describe the game that comes to mind:

Tasteless Cyborg Tactics - Several cyborgs must push each other down to the void. Players give their cyborg three commands per turn, trying to guess opponent's next move.

Terrible Sandwich Havoc - A cannon that shoots sandwich ingredients. Each sandwich must have ingredient of each before they reach the end of the assembly line. Next cannon ingredients are chosen randomly like tetris.

Furry Desert Tale - Your plane crashes in a desert's random location. From a top down perspective, you don't know which direction is civilization, or how far away it is. Find oasis' to avoid dehydration. And just so it happens you're a furry animal.

Psycho Combat in the Dark - Dark rooms with many places to hide, you can use your flashlight to see, but can also give away your position. One stab kills of your psycho weapon of choice kills opponent.

Big-Time Moon Stadium - Moon's low gravity side scroller soccer-like sport.

Rocket league with rockets. (As in the old space rockets from tv)

The pointy noses would make the balls go in all different directions. Different shapes will impact in how the ball can be directed but maybe they affect the speed of the ship?
