Talk about it like you would talk about anything Unity. Create a new thread for each topic you want to talk about. ie. If you want to talk about the Lightmapper, create a new Lightmapper topic. This thread is already hard enough to keep up with.

I keep refreshing but I doubt I was anywhere near the first 100 since I only bought in 2 months ago.

I got my download link this morning, but I'm having trouble activating it. I've tried both internet and manual activation and they both say they've succeeded on the website, but then the app says that it has failed.

I'm using the U3-* serial number I received a while ago.

    Anyone else?

I pre-ordered but the e-mail I received told me it's my last chance to pre-order...did that just go out to everyone, or should I be concerned?

I did not receive any email too... I'm about to pre-order (today, in about 3 hours) because I really want the BETA build...

Do you think I have a chance to get the BETA if I pre-order in about 4 hours? I already have the UNITY PRO.

    :D

Finally managed to save up enough to make the upgrade. Wish that the beta was open to all preorders rather than just the first 100 though, but at least this means it's in the final stages of testing so hopefully wont be too long.

The e-mails say the first 100 preorders will go out today while the rest will follow in the coming weeks.

Well... when I purchased my "Upgrade from Unity pro 2.x to Pro 3.x" I got my serial number the same day (9th of march)...

Can anyone from Unity tell me if I fall into the first 100? When did the pre-sale start?

Anyways... didn't get any mail for any beta whatsoever... :(

About the beta: Just buy when you're ready - there's quite a backlog for us to work through, but we'll get to you. It's not like there's any hard deadlines á la "if you haven't bought before this or that time, you won't get it for another month". It's mainly that we want to increase the exposure as quality increases as well.

As for the email, the servers take a while to churn through the 100k addresses, so if you haven't gotten it yet, fear not. It'll come in the next days :)

    I solved the problem.

I needed to give "everyone" read write permissions to the "Application Support/PACE Anti-Piracy/License Files" directory.

For some reason only "system" had write permissions on that folder.

Does anyone know if the simplified shader language concept is part of Unity3 still?

It was mentioned a while back, a system for having a more RSL style clear and easy shader creation, which would do all the complex stuff behind the scenes for making the shader program work on all platforms without you having to dip into Shaderlab.

    edit - I mean this http://aras-p.info/blog/2009/05/05/shaders-must-die/

Simplified: you can now take shortcuts thanks to the surface shaders. they take a bit to get used to but really make all shaders that have to do with "how does the surface behave" a lot easier to handle and its a fact that a large majority of shaders is exactly of this type :)

Sure but I have no problem with that :)
I can actually code, I used to and made also some quite impressive applications like a company management software and an email application with shared mails on server.
But later on I choose another way (graphics), so I finished with that hell but if the language is simple I can actually code ;)

Well I can tell you Unity teams are going like gang-busters to get it out. I'm testing the beta and I think people are going to be really happy with Unity 3 ! :D

And the new Default Demo is Massively Impressive.

    Unity3 is a monster! :D
I have no words to describe it! Its huge, is fully loaded with next gen features.
Beast dual-lightmaps and the blending between baked textures and real-time lights is awesome! We baked entire levels lights and AO in less than 10 minutes! Plus the material batching and Umbra PVS Occlusion Culling system is a huge rendering speed gain. Is fast, pretty fast, we went from 10-13ms/frame to 1.5-2.0ms on a big level fully with all kind of objects, characters, lots of screen effects, lights, shadows! Crazy!
Unity have new texture encoding that keeps your texture quality almost like a TGA one! We are using 2048*2048 normal map textures for our characters! With Unity2.6 normal maps was about 16MB each! Unity3 are less than 5MB for such huge texture (2048*2048), without artifacts!
The tree creator editor is wwoooowwww,
You can create custom vegetation, with breakable parts and fully animated! Very powerful tool!
The live Debugging is pretty helpful. You can set breakpoints and watch any variable values while playing!
I'm beta testing Unity Android right now. The Unified Editor is awesome, no more different editors, or tweaking projects, exporting packages, etc. Everything in one place, select your platform and build, tada! An other good thing that really blew me. If you are working on multiples platforms like us. You can set, the default import setting for all your platforms, or you can set each one. Eg:
Our PC version have larger textures, we set theses textures on the iPhone/Android import setting to the smaller size! So you don't need to change before building to other platforms or have extra textures. Bring you biggest one, and change each platform import settings as you wish! :D

You will benefit from most of theses stuff if you get Unity3 Pro, now is the time to buy it! Go and get it! Don't wait too much, Unity is around the corner:p

aside of clothing there are now also "thick rays" and collision layers.

But thats basically it I think

aside of the quite higher performance

Not sound presumptuous, but that definitely sounds like something Indie users will be getting!:) And if I'm right, that feature alone is enough for me to upgrade! (I don't generally upgrade my software unless it's very important or worthwhile).
I especially like that it can use MOD files now.
