    Hi

    Here is what I did:

I have downloaded an AnimatedSoldier asset from the store to test out animator. In the package animation clips are not included with the FBX.

In order to use this asset with Animator tool first I created a model using the asset then added an Animator component to it. In Animator window I tried to drag and drop clips but in inspector Motion field was empty and couldn't add any external clip. Then I tried adding animation clips to model(with help of the forums) but only method i found was deprecated.

    Here is my questions:

    1. Can I add animation clips to an imported model inside Unity?
    2. Is there any way to use Animator with external clips?

Please note I am using Animation component and it is working perfect. Also I tried one of my own models(with animation) to work Animator and no problem there.

    Thanks and Have Fun :)

Yes, you can do both, as long as the clips are Mecanim-compatible. Make sure the model and the FBX containing the animation clips are both imported as Humanoid. If you only received raw .anim files, you'll need to contact the publisher to request Mecanim-compatible versions.
