Animations don't work, please help :(

    So, when i create a animation for my gun,
    $1.PNG
    and it dosen't assign the animation component, but has the animator component. And I can't control when it starts or stops because it dosen't have the animation component, and I can disable looping and stuff in the animation itself, but not else. Is there a script or a fix or something I can do? (The model is a .3DS)

    [EDIT]
    When i try to assign the animation to a animation component, it still dosen't change anything, and I get this message when I run the game; Default clip could not be found in attached animations list.

    the animation and the animator components shouldnt really be used in tandem with each-other. The Animator is for mecnim and the Animation is for the legacy animation system if you want to use the legacy animation system select "Legacy" in the drop down menu under the rig tab when importing the model
