Is it possible to animate a grab interactable object after it has been placed into a XRSocketInteractor?

What I'm trying to do is to have a player drop a series of gears (the interactables) onto their corresponding shafts (the socket interactors) and then animate the gears once they are all in place. I have a prefab I created in Blender containing the individual gears along with the animation that I have added to the scene. I can move the individual gears around independent of one another and the animation will still play (albeit with gears not visually connected). However, as soon as I place a gear in the socket, that particular gear no longer animates (all other gears will continue animating).

Is the scenario I've described possible or do I need to go about it differently?

    Thanks.
