Aside from adding support for precomputed GI and the new deferred shading model, the view modes haven't received any love since Unity 2!

There's a wealth of information to be had in UE4's view modes, such as Texel Density, Shader Complexity, LOD colorization, Dynamic Light Overlap, not to mention a huge list of buffer visualizations. Unity 5.4 gives us four buffer visualizations, and only then if we're using Deferred. Plus there's just totally broken stuff- the mip-map visualization is worthless, I have textures in my scene that don't generate mips, and even materials that don't even use textures at all and are still affected by the mip visualization.

What say we get some love in this department, eh? Or maybe some enterprising asset store guru can make an editor extension that I would instantly buy?

The best place to report new feature ideas is on the Unity Feedback page. While many at Unity read the forums, the feedback page was made for ideas like this.
