Finally got up and running on the actual hardware today. Since it's still early going, the game is only running at ~45 fps right now. But what amazes me is how great the experience is even at that framerate. I guess we have the projection magic to thank for this? If I weren't logging the FPS, I would have thought it was a smooth 60 or higher. Amazing stuff, Google folks! BTW, how important are specific framerates anyway? I can't seem to ever run higher than 60 - but should a steady 60 be our goal? And when we fall a little bit short of that, how bad is the user experience expected to get? Are there any guidelines in terms of "never, ever, run below x fps?"
It's completely app dependent. Static camera positions without fast moving animations work best for reprojection. If your experience is well suited for reprojection, then framerate doesn't matter quite so much since reprojection can fill in the gaps.
