I said this on another post like this. This link does not go to a complete list of what is for sale. For example, there are many more models than listed in this persons list. So beware, you are only see a small part of what is there. Sadly, Unity did not think to make it easy for us.

So does this mean the stuff up now will not stay up for 13 days as said in the description? Kind of tough when some are waiting for paychecks to buy assets.

 

As I understand it, any asset submitted to Unity for this sale will be on sale only during the first week, only during the second week, or during both weeks, at Unity's discretion. I have two assets that I submitted, and one of them is on sale right now. I presume it won't be on sale both weeks, and I presume the other will be on sale next week, but I really don't have any way of knowing for sure, since there's been no communication. :-/ So when making ads to promote my products being on sale, I've had to wait until I see one of my assets on sale, and then purchase ads; kinda lame.

 

So is there any way to see what's on sale in the Biggest Sale Ever? Or a way to sort by discount percentage? I don't care too much about things that are 10% off but if something was 75% off on the asset store I would probably buy it even if it were just a literal pile of trash. ...I may have an asset store problem.

 

Fortunately for you, the sale is topped at 30% so nothing greater than that.

I have a "want way too much for my game" problem but it does curb my need to go to the mall and buy more shoes.

 

A really good opportunity to get alot of assets that mainly improve the look of the game like better grass, textures, lighting, fog, particles. Ill wait to buy more expensive assets for when they go on sale on their own, like TerrainComposer2 is on sale for the price of Gaia! I already own it but would but it now if I didnt have it.

 

I'm buying assets which rarely on sale right now as more popular assets will have a higher chance to go sale and higher discount.

 

Just picked up some volumetric clouds, some really nice grass, and all the terrain textures ill ever need. Got em last night. Ill implement them later.

 

I looked at half a dozen that caught my eye. I don't think any of them had links to forums, one I saw had an email for questions/support.

Not having a link to documentation or a forum thread is a big turnoff for me, personally. Just having a brief blurb and some screenshots for the asset isn't really enough to convince me to purchase it, because it assumes it's going to meet my needs but the reality is there are a host of variables which may render it useless.

So...asset makers...finding consistent, ONGOING support for assets can be a challenge at times. Please provide more documentation and forum support, otherwise I'll probably just pass.

 

Yeah this is a must for any asset that contains a kind of "system" I dont think we always need forums for all assets though. Like textures, models, and the clouds I got dont need it.

If you are looking for something specific you can add:

on_sale:yes

to your search on the asset store. So:

on_sale:yes car

as a search lists all the cars and, because of the annoying automatic wildcard, all the cartoon assets on sale..

 

Actually I just checked my wishlist and some of the assets that where on sale during the first wave (there was no way for me to buy them all) dropped out when the second wave hit and are now back in the sale.

I think that is a good decision: People who where still on the fence of purchasing something, expecting the prices to stay low for another week, where probably rather surprised about those prices jumping up again, already.

I feel overwhelmed by this sale. I don't think there's any way I can get through assessment/evaluation of 7000+ assets before the end of the month. Luckily, I have a few "need-to-haves" in my wishlist, but since new assets appear every week, I like to take the time to thoroughly study them before purchasing, and I don't see that as very feasible. That, and since the sale is capped at 30%, it makes it much more difficult to decide to shell out, especially for the more popular assets, and additionally, with weighing out my future needs.

On prior sale discussion threads, a lot of regulars stated that moving forward, they'd make their purchases based on an "as needed" basis. I can totally see the perspective here. It's like either going to Costco/Sam's Club to stock up, vs getting things at the local grocery store as you need it. Which strategy truly saves you more money?

 

I think if you want to save your money, then buy assets which you really need.
But others may buy assets because they think they really need it or at least, curiosity. like having fun with that assets or simply want to study the assets, etc.

For me, I will buy assets which rarely on sale and I think I will need it someday.
Because I'm student and solo dev and I like to try things up

 

I recon that spending money on assets you never really need is money lost.
So if you have assets that you definitely need just get them. But when you are not sure, check how much money you will actually save by the sale. If it is just 15% or 20% it may not be worth the risk. You should probably just not get it now.
If it is the full 30% think about it until you are sure you will need it or not.

That basically sums up my approach to this sale. Took me about three days to sort through the sale so far.
And there still are some assets in my wishlist that I may end up buying before the end of the week, after all.

 

Maybe it would help to understand my problems if I gave specific examples. No need to immediately answer each one, as the questions are just examples of dilemmas that I would have thought other people would have with such a large deluge of assets on sale.

1. I know I want to get Anti-Cheat Toolkit and Obfuscator, but I'm not sure how far out into the future I'll need it. They've been on sale before, for more than 30% off, but there's no guarantee that they'll be on sale again within a year or two at a greater than 30% discount. Hell, they may even eventually go free in 1-2 years, like other assets have done, like Text Mesh Pro.

2. I'm looking for a boat wake asset, as well as underwater effect assets. There are about 3 that I'm looking at, but I have no idea which one works best for me. I'm using Aquas Lite right now, and was thinking of upgrading to full, but there are other assets that may serve my purposes better. It doesn't help that I haven't pinned down a visual target yet. But how can I, if I'd like to experiment with different types, which would require me to purchase them?

3. Has anyone used the Rivermill assets? I'm looking at vehicles and environment. They look pretty good, but again, not sure if it'll fit my visual target.

4. What if there are some assets that are out there in the sale that I never know about, because I never browsed to it, but would absolutely help my production. It just feels like I could be missing a lot of opportunity solely because it's like a "superstore with only a few hours of shopping". You can seriously miss out on some gems, and this is the big issue I have with this sale format.
