If you're looking for a new way to monetize your Android app, come check out the Airpush network. Airpush is a push-notification network. Our developers consistently see $3+ CPM's and much higher CPM's than traditional networks such as AdMob. The difference is that Airpush ads are served in the push-notification tray of Android devices. This ad unit generates much higher CTR's and fill rates. Come test us out - feedback welcomed!

Do you have any solid data in relation to users disallowing push altogether for the application as a consequence?
Also, how well does it comply to spam regulation laws in case it does not correctly request the users ok to push advertisement?

dreamora I checked their website airpush.com and it looks like they have an API for developers to build their own end-user opt-out and opt-in as needed. so I imagine some developers will create opt-in, some will create opt-out, and some will create nothing...I guess I prefer that developer choice rather than forcing developers into a single operation mode.
by the way regarding opt-out data it looks like their ad network is Android-only so it doesn't have the iPhone push opt-out which you're thinking about ;) but without iPhone it will be very hard for Airpush to grow large since Android is still very small.

The absolute best way to get one star reviews, and to get people to actively flag your app as malicious and start campaigns of one star ratings is to use the AirPush SDK.

Pretty much within minutes of updating your app to push ads to the notification bar, users will use an AirPush detector app to find out your app is the problem. Then the one star reviews and boycots will start.

    Don't bother. :D

In Germany for example, everthing but a double opt-in can get you sued.

Single opt-in and out-out can get you (as company) sued and you can get fines up to 50.000 EUR. So it's not worth, as I doublt there is a double opt-in for push notifications

Exactly. Every App I see using AirPush or other Notification spam Framework, I'll uninstall immediately, give 1-star rating and negative comment for all other users to know.

You will neither do yourself or your users a favor, by putting this cancer in your game.

Also it's the best way to get your App/Game removed from the Android Market:

    http://www.acehbarat.info/2011/05/2...ectly-into-the-tray-already-banned-by-google/

    http://martinadamek.com/2011/04/28/apndroid-is-suspended-on-the-android-market/

And iirc in order to out-out, the user has to visit their website and enter their IMEI number, something that >50% of the people are not compfortable with, because the IMEI is a unique number identifying your phone.

So for the same of god, better make your game $0.30-0.99 than filling your users phone/notification with S***.

    edit:
Also it's morally very questionable (and one of the reasons why you will get so many negative ratings) because directly exploit inexperienced Android users who don't know that this push notifications are spam. When they click on it, all kind of bad thing could happen or get installed on their devices.

I'm not sure about AirPush but I've heard some of the Notification spam messages don't disappear when you click "clear" button (Notifications can be marked as Sticky, to make them persist a notification button clean) unless you click on the ad itself.
