Advanced Fur Shader?

    [Could I have this moved to the Shader Section please :) ]
    I was wondering if anyone has any luck or method of emitting fur, similar to the Unify Community's Fur Shader?
    While surfing around, I came across "Shell and Fin", which I believe is the method used with the Unify shader.

    One of the biggest problems I am having with the Unify shader is that it isn't (from what I'm aware) influenced by lamps other than the ones dictated in the shader settings (specifically for that fur).
    I also feel limited with how the fur is projected and what influences that.
    Would if be possible to allow the shader to have a diffuse layer for the character's texture, and a separate layer just for projecting the fur?
