So I assume WE ACTUALLY CAN RELEASE A COMMERCIAL GAME WITH IT.

    Right?

With that sort of small (large) print, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. Too much rubbish for lawyers to fight over, and in anything that involves lawyers, the only winners are the lawyers themselves.

Haha. I'm the one who make it that large.
The model are quite good just to be left alone.

Yes. That's the point. The idea behind Unity-Chan (as I understand it) is to create a commonly recognizable game character, which can be used by everyone (with some restrictions as the license describes above - ie, no Unity-Chan porn). Think of it like a democratized version of Mario.

That's such an amazing idea I want to hug who ever thought it up! Someday Unity should expand with more mascots for different styles of games, perhaps even involving the community in the design :D I would like a character with a style more towards Sonic, Mario or Spyro as the old mascots of consoles.

It's common scenes in Japan, actually.

Try looking at their Windows 8 mascot, or the famous Hatsune Miku singing synthesizer software.

I never thought Unity will have their own too. Haha.

    It makes me glad. :D

I have to agree. It's too iffy.

After reading the document more thoroughly, I believe they meant to allow it for commercial use, except in certain circumstances. But the wording is too muddled in places and I wouldn't chance it.

However, it does look like it'd be fun to make a hobby game with it, and I'd feel safe enough doing that, provided that I don't make an erotic game, or commit libel/slander/whatever or anything. (Not that I'm likely to, anyhow.)

I downloaded the asset and I like it a lot.
If Unity wishes to see it used somehow, it would be nice to clarify how we should use it, in plain English ( or Greek ).

Well, let me boil down a bit of that legalese into something a little easier to parse.

    1. Don't use the Unity-Chan character in pornographic material or projects. This one is pretty basic, and makes sense. They don't want the character associated with that sort of thing, which is why the word "adult" keeps showing up. And honestly, this is the biggest restriction in the whole disclaimer.

    2. Give credit where credit is due. This one basically means that you cannot claim ownership of Unity-Chan, and have to provide proper credit for where Unity-Chan came from. This is where they mention appending the needed credit to the work, and displaying their provided marketing materials (logos) in conjunction with your project. You can clear this one up easily enough by simply throwing in a call-out in your game's credit sequence, using their distributed logo and/or marketing material. As long as you provide clarification in your game about who Unity-Chan belongs to (copyright), you're covered. It requires some slight extra work on the developers part, but is not really much of a restriction, and more of a common legal courtesy.

    3. Don't use Unity-Chan in other, non-related media. This one is pretty basic. Don't create billboards, television commercials, magazine ads, etc... that focus on the Unity-Chan character. And especially don't do any of this for companies and fields that have nothing to do with Unity or game development. A less scrupulous person might use an easily accessible asset like this one for completely unrelated purposes. This is a means for them to prevent that sort of thing, and keep the branding focused. If you want to include Unity-Chan on the cover of a physical copy of your game, that's actually possible, and wouldn't violate this restriction. But using it for a milk advertisement? That would be a big no-no.

well my game will be safe for work(if u dont count romatic scenes(not showing any nudity/sex scenes) and/or fighting scenes or the sad parts of the story(example is the death her grandpa before birth)), credits will be given and unity-chan will be used as a main character in my unity game wich credits in the apropiate credit scene(if i inplement it) and the about screen it seems okay to me only thing that culd be a issue is the romantic scenes but those are mild and only there when the story goes that way the story will be based on my paranormal/normal expirences and my fanatasy, lovelife aswell as some other games(neptunia for example) but those will be hiden enough so noone can sue me on that and i can propley use unity chan :)

If I just want to use the shader, how do you give credit?

    A simple "UNITY-CHAN! shader © Unity Technologies Japan/UCL" should suffice, I'd say.
    See the Guidelines here: http://unity-chan.com/contents/guideline_en/

Alternatively, contact the Unity-Chan team directly via email. The address is listed on the above website at the very bottom.
