Hi everyone - Hub v3.5 is now live!

We fixed the noticeable delays in starring projects, removed the 40 project limit and made some bug fixes and performance improvements.
You can see the release notes here.

Thank you! The Unity Hub team

    Bug Report:

Clicking "Restart" in the "A new version is available"-prompt to download and install the Hub version 3.5.0 just uninstalled the Unity Hub and that's it, didn't download and install the newest version.
Had to manually re-download and re-install the newest version, I couldn't do it within in the Hub like all the other times before. Maybe it is a permission issue on my machine, but I should have elevated rights and it worked all the versions before. Anyways, just wanted to leave this here. If it occurs more often others can confirm or like or yada yada yada. :)

    Windows 11 Pro
    10.0.22621 Build 22621

    Bug Report:

    Windows 10
    OS Build: 19045.3086

Clicked the Restart. rebooted hub and says 3.5.0 now.
launched a 110% working project. -> unity hub loading, loading loading. then procedes to close down the unity engine.
and sits at the hub with no error reports. no info in the hub logs either.

best of all, same happen on our build mac. and no info in logs about a failed unity engine startup.

(how do we rollback to a working unity hub version?)

It would be useful if there was a way to download older versions of Unity Hub in case things like this happen. Is there such a thing, or could someone at least provide a link to version 3.4.2?

    hello,
nice but can you plz explain why it is still Intel on Mac OS X ???
did you ever heard that Silicon also exist?
Why why why ... you make the life so hard for Mac users... :-(
when opening it takes still long long time until it's bootet...
i'll don't get it what is so difficult to write launcher that works... and is smaller...
why 439 MB waste of space for a launcher????
i'll don't get it... what is wrong @ Unity ???
    more than disappointed ...

    Bug Report:

    Windows 11
    Build 22621.1848

Updated to 3.5.0 earlier today. Also updated to the newest version of Visual Studio 2022 (x86 - 14.36.32532) after opening it through Unity Editor. Then, removed older versions of Visual Studio to clean up. Restarted computer. Now, none of my projects open from Unity Hub. The loading wheel turns for 30-ish seconds, then just stops. No errors. Visual Studio still works when opened separately of course.

How can I go back to Unity Hub 3.4.2? Also, is there any other way for me to access my projects for work in the meantime? I'm still new to Unity. Thank you.

    -----
    Update:

I uninstalled Unity Editor 3.5.0 and reinstalled an old version of 3.4.1 which I still had in my local downloads. Then, uninstalled the 2021.3.24 LTS that I had been using, installed 2021.3.27 LTS and opened a project with that. The project converted without issue and my Hub is working again. Even tested out updating to 3.5.0 again and now it works too.

    The problem is that now I can't sign into learn.unity.com. I can sign in everywhere else, but there it gives me an error: {"errorCode":"InternalServerError","message":"Wrap non AppError","target":"","details":null}
The Google Chrome inspector console also shows the error: "Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 ()". I could continue to follow the lessons without signing in, but it's not the same without the exp, badges, progress checks, etc.

Any plan to switch Electron Framework to much better lightweight and high performance framework for next major version release? It's unacceptable that the app size is 400MB+ for a project launcher app and also the app launch speed is still insanely slow that loading screen is still stay there for quite long time before going to project section. I expect something less than 100 MB and expect to launch unity hub less than 2 seconds.

Actually why not just fully embrace C# and use a .NET Core Cross-Platform Desktop framework?

There are far more lightweight options than Electron. Qt for example.

But that debate probably belongs to a different thread.

They should use Assembly language for the Hub make it sure that they have to rewrite everything for every platform without exception. For a launcher.

Yeah, the convenience of having to write something once and have it work like ass on all platforms is probably too good to pass up.

    Unity port to Electron when?

There is an Internet resource called the 'WayBack Machine'. It stored the "Internet". A search there in the past helped me find an older version of the Unity Hub.

Twice this year I've been unable to use Unity for DAYS because the Unity Hub for Mac makes use of Apple's Rosetta utility to translate Intel into Silicon Mac. I was forced to reset the operating system back to factory settings. Then endure the weeks of missing passwords, files and programs. I do it because I love Unity but it does really push my patience.

How can I downgrade to the previous version?

Unity Hub no longer lets me install new unity editors or modules. The log shows the errors:
    Code (json):
    1. {"timestamp":"2023-06-28T21:18:27.812Z","level":"info","moduleName":"UnityInstallerWindows","message":"[ 'user did not agree to the UAC prompt and the process was not started' ]"}

    3. {"timestamp":"2023-06-28T21:18:27.812Z","level":"error","moduleName":"UnityInstallerWindows","message":"[ { code: 'User did not grant permission.', message: 'The Hub does not have proper permissions to install Unity.' }, undefined ]"}
    4.
    I have tried:
    • Running Unity Hub as administrator
    • Freeing up space on my drive (~60 GB remaining)
    • Moving my default unity installation folder to User/Documents/Unity
    • Uninstalling Unity Hub and reinstalling it
    • Installing different versions of the unity editor (fails with same error)
    • Installing modules on older versions I already have installed (fails with same error)
I am able to manually install unity editors and modules through the windows Unity Installer, but am unable to install android build tools that way. The latest version of unity does not accept the android build tools installed with the older versions of unity for some reason either.

Full log of trying to install android module + build tools on an older unity version:

    EDIT: Small update
I could successfully install another installation on my other computer. It successfully opens the UAC prompt, which is where unity hub fails on the first computer.

    EDIT 2023/08/24:
[Just found a workaround on reddit that works for me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/unity/comm...?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

    1. In Unity Hub, go to preferences -> installs. Make note of the "Downloads location" (Might have to move it out to a folder you know doesn't get deleted)
    2. Outside of the Unity Hub, open a File Explorer, and navigate to the specified "Downloads location"
    3. If you haven't already, try to install an editor in the Hub (this will fail)
    4. In your File Explorer, there should be an installer in the "Downloads location": https://i.imgur.com/BmVTwCZ.png
    5. Double click to open/install and it will install as if it was installed by Unity Hub.

Been having issues with this for so long now and nothing else worked. Manually installing editors did work, but installing addons for them was a bother.

I update to 3.5.0 on Windows.
There are only four or five project templates for Unity 2021.x.x.
    2022.x.x , 2020.x.x and 2019.x.x are correct that have 12 or above.
    How do I fix this?

I second this, as an asset developer this allows grouping our assets together by usage, e.g. extensions for a base asset.

I was thinking more along the lines of Product->Version->Development/Test/Release but your usage works as well.

I currently have 60+ Development/Test/Release projects spread across my assets and the lack of management for them in the hub is a pain.

Since the hub updated automaticaly to 3.5.0, the installation of sub-modules only works 1 at a time.

If I check 2 sub-modules or more, the first install well but then it get stuck like this:
    upload_2023-7-8_14-46-54.png

Didn't got this with 3.4.2 on the same computer. Seems like a permission issue on my _TEMP folder causing this.

I found the solution: My "Downloads location" settings was D:\Programs\_TEMP\unityhub-34126530-8fa5-11ed-b635-f7090deb7f3a instead of D:\Programs\_TEMP. The folder "unityhub-34126530-8fa5-11ed-b635-f7090deb7f3a" didn't exist.

But the hub should not have this behaviour and either:
    - create the folder if not exist
    - check and deny the use of a non-existing folder as "Downloads location" settings

Is it acceptable to post feature requests here? It would be very helpful to have a link to an editor versions changelog/patch notes as a context menu option. Just something simple, as illustrated below to open up a link to the release page.

Maybe only I have such a problem, but it seems to me that it works like this for everyone, after starting the Unity Hub, the Unity Editor is loaded into RAM, because of this, ~ 6GB is used, and wild lags begin, make sure that Unity Hub does not load the Editor if it is not required.

I am having similar issues, and on top of that, Visual Studio Code seems broken as well (more on that below).

After clicking the "Restart Now" button (or whatever it is labeled), Unity Hub was seemingly uninstalled and not actually updated: Clicking the Desktop icon now informed me I had no Unity Hub (Windows offered to delete the icon). I restarted computer and somehow it now worked if I searched for the App from Windows button, but when I booted up VS Code, it is now throwing some random errors. Game runs fine in the editor, but it is telling me all Monobehavior stuff (like Update, Start, etc) are "Unused."

I really don't know how the two could be related, but I sure would love it if they just let me roll back my Hub lmao. I will try to post with better detail when I am at my computer.

It happened to me in the Unity Hub 3.5.0 version, it was just updating it and it stopped opening any Unity project.

Analyzing forums and solutions (none worked for me) I realized that my Pro license had expired.

I removed it and put a free one and it worked perfectly for me.

P.S: Check if your license in "preferences gear > Licenses" has the active license.

I hope I have helped you, regards.

So I upgraded to 3.5.0 and now ALL of my projects are showing up as Editor Version "Unknown". When I try and open by selecting an editor from my installs the Hub thinks my projects are pre 5.0 (!) which is very much not the case and the editor crashes shortly after trying to open. Is anyone else experiencing this and how the hell do we downgrade the Hub install?

Finally found workaround to this, though the UAC popup still doesn't show even after updating to 3.5.1
