Hey all. I had not yet seen an actual, dense forest made with the Unity terrain engine, so I took it upon myself to make one. Aren't you all so excited? Anyways, here's a screenshot: For sound I'm mixing an ambient forest loop with a rain loop, and throwing in running water sounds when you get closer to the stream. It's going to be awesome. n_n
Looks good- if a little dark. Patches of sunlight streaming through the canopy in several places would be neat.
Well, it is supposed to be raining, although my rain particles are horrible, and need much tuning up, so sun beams during a rainstorm doesn't seem very practical.. >.>
Anyways, here's a new shot where you can more clearly see the rain. It's the shoreline, as this forest is kind of an island. I also made the water a much less hideous color.
>.> I wondered if anyone would ask. Yeah, it's painful, and I have a good computer too. I need to do some crazy optimization. Also, going to make it a quick little test of my online skill. Walk around alone in the forest (which isn't TOO big), or have a two player game of tag through the woods. That means that I now need to change it from First Person though, which means modeling a character. Now what character could look realistic in this setting...?
Well, I'm not really employing anything that's very complicated. It's all just plain ol' terrain-making.
Just for future reference, PNGs are a pretty heavy format for game screenshots. Use JPEGs so as to not murder people's connections.
There'll be no noticeable difference between a good quality .jpg and a .png in the context of the forum. Thanks for the pics, but they are slow!
nice nice nice nice nice forest you got there. I can never seem to make a decent terrain, grass, ground texture, forest, path, water, or any old thing. it's too bad, really. guess i just gotta get smart.
