    Hello any idea when we will see InfiniGrass 2? sadly won't be able to use it for current games, as to much times had passed. couldn't wait any longer, but glad to see your taking more time to make it better.. So I rather wait and have a awesome tool.....anyways, but was curious, if you know about when it may be coming? if not, no problem, I thought I ask. if you posted, I may have missed, i don't read every single post.. hehe

    Hi,

    I am getting closer, the new ground adapt systems and splines took it a bit further, and i had some deadlines outside the Unity work too, so i hope to have the Beta early next month is the current goal.

    hehe, I hear you on the deadlines.. I have them myself. well, I will wait until the next game, if we use Unity or not, as I will be going back to Unreal engine. as I love it. been using it for many years. before Unity.. Making another game with Unreal. Would love to see some of your assets with Unreal one day :)

    InfiniGRASS uses custom shading, so they are compatible with the base pipeline, i am not sure on the other two new ones, but given i have not done extra work for those, since they are highly unknown how to handle them at the moment, i suppose wont be compatible and wont be for some time, as the new pipelines require remaking of all shaders, which can take a lot of time and could be another asset version for the HQ for example, since it could take months or years of extra development to cover all the new stuff (which is essentially not much different than the same old, but with different names and libraries in everything to make things exponentially hander).

    Another thing is that the whole scheme of the 3 pipelines is extremely rushed and not well though out at all, so i expect things to change rapidly in this and would only cause broken shaders and pain to the users (i have already seen reports of fellow asset publishers where their shaders got completely broken after only a few upgrades to the pipelines, after doing lots of work to port their shaders).

    Also having 3 pipelines would besides the extra work would be confusing for the users as well, so i plan to keep it simple with the base shader for some time and start working on the pipelines when we have some base documentation of how to convert custom shaders, which is unknown when will be released, as it is an extremely hard matter to handle, even the documentation would be very to make and after all this time there is near to none.

    The other thing is that InfiniGRASS uses custom shaders, so the performance gain from the new pipelines would be marginal anyway, the system uses pure shaders without extra overhead, so my thinking is that should be way faster than both other pipelines that are encumbered with so many extras that are probably not needed.

    Does this grass package support float point correction? In other words, if I move the terrain at runtime, will the grass move with it?

    I am not sure on the floating point correction, but the grass can be planted on any orientation and move with objects. I have not tried to move a whole terrain's grass with it though, i will have to do some tests for the massive scale.

    I did a test in the new v2.0 of the system (because is trivial to fill whole terrains with grass and is much faster as well in every way) and seems to work nicely.

    Do you need the terrain to move constantly or just change places instantly ? The video does the constant approach.

    That looks promising :) We move the terrain in a single frame, changing the place instantly.

    Then should not be a problem i suppose, even in fully real time is working, so instant will work directly. I will add an option to the updater to call, so it also enables the new v2.0 system of updating for the rendering (it is the reason i parented the camera to the terrain in the video since for performance reasons i activate it only on camera motion, but is a trivial call to enable it on demand).

    So when moving the terrain, a call to the updater will also do the grass update, without the need for the camera to move to update. This is for v2.0 and for the default v2.0 system of grass updating (which is the most performant), there is also a v1.x style of updating that wont need that update functionality (works like v1.x but with pooling and GPU instancing so is also much faster)

    Working around the clock for this now, i only need to finalize the brush creation and management system, as this was a much asked feature. I have pinpointed the workflow now and should be coded very soon, the idea is to also offer a way to create brushes as assets, so can be exchanged between scenes in a streamlined way.

    I have created now all structures needed and doing the final coding for the handling, so will not be long to finalize :)

    Hi,

    I am working on the final steps of the Beta, the brush creator. This has proven to be a bit hard due to all the possibilities, including externalizing brushes for direct use with other scenes, extracting SpeedTree brushes, usage of unique material in scene or asset based global ones, use of global or local in scene brushes etc

    I have done most of that work though, so i hope to have it ready sometime in early June.

    The final tool will be a powerfull prefab generator too, which includes combining objects on the spot forming a unique brush and exporting a unique combined optimized mesh for use in the system or beyond it. A sprite sheet renderer will also be included to create sprite sheets from various angles automatically for any object (also WIP)

    I have a procedural planet sphere and want to automate adding grass. I know all the grass vertices so I can plant at runtime, but where is the API for this? Can this tool automatically mass-plant based on distance from a point (sphere center) or can I do it manually by vertex? If by vertex, do I call a method, or just place the prefabs? (with tags?)

    Hi,

    In the demo "DEMO v1.7.8 REAL TIME PLANTED GRASS", check the item "COLLISION BASED PLANTING" and check the script attached called "InfiniGRASSPlanter"

    This script does planting when there is a collision, but can be used as templete for other customized planting.

    Check the method: PlantInPosition (Vector3 position, Vector3 normal, Collider collider1, Transform transform1)

    which you may use as needed to plant in certain position and normal, which can be given by raycast or collision or any other means you may want. The system will also check if the cast is done on Unity terrain, so it may use the rules that are based on splat maps and height-slopes, set in the Grass Manager.

    Note on Sky Master ULTIMATE and InfiniGRASS in Unity 2018, errors when building project

    It came to my attention that in Unity 2018 there was an issue when building the project with some of the shaders.

    The errors can be fixed using the following changes and pressing on the error (double click) to move to the
    error spot in the shader (so not search for the line manually)

    If the error mentions _Shadowcoords, add in the #pragma definitions (may be in more than one spots) the following:
    #pragma multi_compile_fwdbase nolightmap //v4.1

    If the error mentions unexpected token ";", change the "float attenuation" line in the below lines, with the UNITY_LIGHT_ATTENUATION function and comment out the "float attenuation" line:
    //float attenuation = LIGHT_ATTENUATION(i);
    UNITY_LIGHT_ATTENUATION(attenuation, i, i.posWorld.xyz);

    I will post updates to the store and Google Drive downloads too asap, with the fixes included.

    The new version is 1.x but for unity 2018. V.20 is in the works and will be in beta soon.

    Also i plan to support both new pipelines, but after v2.0 initial release, as this is new territory yet and with zero support or documentation from Unity since they are beta and experimental.

    If i support the new pipelibes now and everything may change since they are not supported by Unity yet and are mentioned as use at your own risk by unity team, supporting them now would lead to possible totally broken user projects, so i will avoid those for now until we have an officil final release that wont change radically.

    v1.9 is now up in the Asset Store and solves issues with a few of the Legacy shaders in Unity 2018.

    How is 2.0 coming along, is the beta in sight? I got sidetracked with the day job back when 2.0 was beginning development, but I remember asking if custom grass is 'easier' to implement. Is that still a feature?

    Also, is the 2018 version of 1.0 on the asset store or is it still a PM only thing at the moment?

    The base of v2.0 is working for some time now, now i am doing the custom brush creator mainly and will go to Beta when this is also done. So this is the module that will also make easier to create brushes in an automated way and covering all cases is taking me a bit longer since there is much to tackle in this one to make most of the process fully automated.

    This module will also make it possible to save brush libraries as an external resource and share easilly between scenes, import grass brushes from terrain or SpeedTree, create billboards from auto rendering the brushes from various sides etc so there is a lot to it.

    The 2018 version of the latest v1.x is in the store now.
