60 Pages of asset store sales?

    Not a fan of this new format of having sales 3-4 months apart with hundreds of things all at once.

    To top it off, sale doesn't support the old Store view, which is vastly superior.

    No way in hell, i'm actually going to go through everything in the list, and analyze what they could possibly do for me.

    Maybe i'm just getting old, and grumpy.

    Unless you know which asset you want we are unable to tell the best and most valuable assets.

    You can also just go to the old store link and enter this as a search term:

    Is that not the problem of every sale anywhere? Im not going to rummage through hundreds of shirts, jeans, shoes, etc on sale in a clothing store; im likely to 'search' for exactly what I would be interested in buying.

    Im not going to spend time writing why stores put on sales (and I am not a store owner so would not be in the best position of experience to offer my perspective), but I was just commenting saying why I don't think 60 pages of assets on sale is a big problem.

    Example Scenario:
    I am working on a low-poly 3d game about pirates.
    I see that the Asset Store has a sale on; hooray!
    I open up the list of hundreds of assets on sale; no time to browse through them all (I don't think anyone does!)
    My Pirate Characters are currently Cubes and my level environment is white boxed using ProBuilder; I need better art assets!
    I search for 'Pirates' in the sale list to filter for ideal assets for my game.
    End up with this smaller list: https://assetstore.unity.com/search/?order_by=relevance&q=on_sale:yes&q=pirates&rows=42

    Seems quite straightforward to me; but let me know if there are technical problems and I can forward it to the Asset Store team. :)

    I was agreeing with you, though I see why that didn't come across.

    When there's a sale on I look at stuff I was likely to buy anyway. It's a win for me if I can get it a bit cheaper. So you're right that the number of items doesn't really matter.

    The point I was failing to make is that if you needed a thing anyway then a sale or not doesn't really change anything aside from a bonus on the prices. If you buy stuff you wouldn't have otherwise purchased then you're not saving anything.

    When I middle-mouse-click anything that has the "quick look" option it doesn't open in a new tab, even if I click the part that would not open the quick look popup when left clicked. That completely throws off my browsing experience because I'm used to "queue" up new tabs and review them once they've loaded. Combined with the fact the assetstore is very slow, it makes browsing it a chore to me. I would consider that a technical problem, because it breaks a default browser behaviour that I'm very used to.

    They sacrificed standard browser behavior for the stupid "quick look" bar. I've been trying to get them to fix this bug for months. Don't look for it, it's likely not gonna happen :(

    You mean the "Quick Look" field that fades in when you're hovering over items?
    Middle-clicking works for me (Chrome).

    Yes right-click new tab works. But middle click is standard and expected behavior and SHOULD work, and needs to be fixed. Middle-click works OK in Chrome, it's Firefox (and others?) that is the issue. I know it's 2018 and all and Chrome has muscled it's way everywhere, but responsible web designers STILL need to ensure that stuff works in other browsers. :rolleyes:

    If it's an issue between the quick look and middle click then I strongly suggest removing the quick look.

    Wish asset store was up to my standards. It's not so I don't use it where possible. If I have to it will be via discovery of the asset on forums.

    The reason I don't like the asset store is because it's not designed for professionals but for amateurs and hobbyists. It's clear from the complete lack of consumer protection or controls for depreciation or standards for code and media. It exists purely for throughput 30% and I'm just not stupid enough to embrace it.

    It is just a toy shop.

    I utilize Unity sales to learn, and grow.

    Pick up things I never would have thought about before, and learn them, and add them to my mental toolbox.
    I"ve spent lots of money on random purchases, for the sake of trying things out.

    Yes there are a lot of lemons, but it is a fun growth process for me.
    And a lot of times I have used assets 1-2 years after purchasing them, because a scenario appeared where it became useful.

    Sometimes i've bought things on sale of an asset that I already have a similar asset of. Only to find it to superior.

    Being presented with the entire store on sale, basically means I have to have a pick a focus area, instead of being presented with random things to learn.

    Which is not a bad thing. I end up saving money.
    But the possibility of what I might have lost in the ocean bothers me a bit.

    I ended up going with some car physics assets this sale, since it was something I haven't played around with much yet.
    I am sorry for being grumpy yesterday.

    I spent a lot of cash on asset store with multiple accounts over the years and in that time have come to work out what I perceive to be a bunch of improvements to increase business, and it's nothing to do with the web front end. It's more about giving authors the means to support customers. Right now the whole thing is just a design for a much smaller audience and it's not working for the long term.
