I'm trying to launch Unity for the first time. In the license screen, I select free license, and try to log in. When I do so, I get internal server error.

I was able to start Unity by saving the license file and uploading it at https://license.unity3d.com/manual/. Each time I got a server error, I simply refreshed and continued along the process.

I'm getting this also... damn bad luck. Firstly Mono stopped talking to unity3d.. no script line linking.. having to search through the code for the error... I gave up, uninstalled everything , now this.. what am I paying for again? headaches?

I got the same 500 internal error several times.
Refresh your screen several times, quit Unity and relaunch. Doing that, I was able to save and uploading the license.
After that, same problem, several screens with Error 500, and again relaunch and, at last, it worked...

Manual activation works, but you will have to press reload several times. Also, once you manage to download your licence, I suggest to disable internet access so unity will load manual activation page. Still, what the heck is wrong with this thing?

    I'm experiencing the same problem.
I just downloaded Unity and wanted to give it a try. I'm pressing "activate the free version" ang getting internal server error.
I think I will delete Unity and never try it again. Must choose something else. Something that just works.

I think Unity is being ddos'd, forums, asset store and licensing server has been even slower than usual (and that's saying a lot at least in regards to the asset store).

I just kept trying the whole process from the beginning (there is no refresh button for me either). In my case I manually uploaded the license file (paid vsn). Took about 3 or 4 tries - finally it offers the option to manually save/load the license file. I just happened to be moving Unity from my Mac to Windows at the time this error is occurring.

I just tried and it's working now. I didn't get one 500 error. Try it now.
