    SkyMaster ULTIMATE URP - Ethereal Volumetric Lighting system.

    Added option to enable infinite local lights than the current fixed number of 6 local lights. The system will be enabled by changing the volume fog material shader to the new version and using the light count variable to control the effect, positive numbers will add up to N lights with volume and negative will add infinite lights up to abs(lightCount) distance.

    Ethereal v1.1.8h released at the Unity Asset Store (Major Update)

    Ethereal v1.1.8h
    - Added new option to use infinite local lights directly,
    versus the previous 6 local lights limit. To enable replace the Legacy material in the "VolumeFogSRP_FORWARD_URP" material with the non Legacy version (Legacy is default as has the best performance, because hardcoding 6 lights is faster than the new loop that supports any number). This mode is suggested for use only on stronger systems.
    - Fixed an issue in the new fixed step method where lights might appear in front of objects, also regulated the effect more precisely,
    it might need to re-adjust the "StepsControl.x" variable for best result. Also decoupled the fixed step system from the directional light, now only applies to the local lights.
    - Added first Beta version of the new light streaming - management module, that will assign volumes to lights as the player moves around the map and assign distant volumes to impostor light volume system automatically, for large scale maps light management. This is the first base version and the system will be updated with more features, smooth out transitions and impostors in next versions.

    Hi, i have started using Sky Master and would like to use ethereal in standard pipeline, is this possible ? Or is only for URP ?

    Hi, the Ethereal asset is made from ground up only for URP pipeline, but the Sky Master ULTIMATE Standard pipeline has 3 volumetric lighting sub systems, one is on par with Ethereal, another only for sun for more performance and a screen space effect for sun that is suitable for mobile.

    Light volume selection system. When "Control by color" is activated, only lights with the same 128 value in the same R,G or B channel with the light declared in the "LightA" slot, will receive a volume.


    When the system is disabled all local lights will receive a volume.

    Ethereal 1.1.8k has been released at the Unity Asset Store !!

    - Added tutorial demo showcasing the ability to enable volumetrics only for certain local lights using the light selection based on color system and added detailed instructions inside the demo scene for the usage and for direct reference.

    SkyMaster ULTIMATE URP - Ethereal Volumetric Lighting system.

    Work in progress on the new Impostor volumetric lights system for extreme performance volumetrics and ideal use on mobile. The assets is still TBD if will be part of Ethereal or a very low priced upgrade from the Ethereal full volumetric system.

    The two systems will be possible to be used together as well for maximizing looks and performance in same project as needed.

    Note on use of Sky Master ULTIMATE - Ethereal in Unity versions beyond 2019.

    It may happen that there come up an error on variable protection level in the Temporal AA and Motion blur helper modules, in this case please search for the "patch" rar file that contains a version of the effects that is compatible with Unity 2020 and above. The file location is also shown in the above photo.

    The patch is also included in Sky Master ULTIMATE URP version of Ethereal.

    Hello, I'm thinking about purchasing the Volumetric Lighting & Fog package. Do you know if the fog and shadow implementation supports shadows on geometry created by a Graphics.DrawMeshInstanced() call in URP?

    I've had wacky issues with that in the past regarding post processing shaders so I figured I'd ask first.

    Hi, i dont know this, i can try but will take a while for sure to setup a test.

    Note the system uses unity shadow, so my guess is that if that geometry casts normal shadow, the system will grab it.

    If you can provide a very simple script creating such mesh in a scene, i can test that very fast though

    Added a new Ethereal URP tutorial with fine tuning a spot light. The new demo scene with these tweaks will come in the next asset update.

    The video showcases how to regulate the noise, brightness and steps in the spot light volumes. This tutorial uses the fixed step sampling mode.

    - Added checkbox to add the renderer feature in the forward renderer assigned to the camera if does not exist.
    - Added notification in the connect fog script on camera, if the renderer feature is already properly setup in the selected in camera forward renderer, when the checkbox for setup is activated. Also notify if the URP fog material is not setup in the connect script.

    Ethereal working in Unity 2022.1 Beta with URP13 - Deferred mode and in the photos present the difference in water reflection depending on the Depth Copy mode selected.

    The photos are taken from the demo scene in Sky Master ULTIMATE URP demos that implement Ethereal in combination with Sky Master ULTIMATE water system.

    Ethereal Major breakthrough in noise reduction with Temporal AA, coming in next update !!


    Another major update on Ethereal optimizations is now completed, have now implemented Temporal AA which allows a massive reduction in noise in the directional light and when the non noise free region is used in point and spot lights.

    Without downscale (50-60fps) - Test in 5 years old DELL XPS laptop

    Ethereal Major breakthrough in performance, coming in next update !!!

    A major update on Ethereal optimizations is now completed, have now implemented the new downscale system, so can use a smaller buffer to render the volume and increase performance exponentially.

    The reason why this was WIP until now is because created issues in the object borders, like artifacts of light, now have managed to handle this issue, so the downscale mode can be put in the code for the next update.

    I see a double increase in performance directly when apply the downscale by a factor of 2, as shown in the images posted above.

    Ethereal is the volumetric lighting system of Sky Master ULTIMATE URP version and is made from ground up for URP pipeline. Sky Master ULTIMATE has another volumetric lighting system made for Standard Pipeline.

    I recommend buying Sky Master ULTIMATE, so can access all volumetric lighting and clouds solutions.

    UPDATE:

    One note that came to my attention and maybe of help to Linux users, for the system to work proper in Linux, will need to turn on the new Vulkan graphics mode, then the system will work properly on Linux.

    - Fixed issue where enable HDR checkbox disabled HDR instead. Note that if see the volumetric lights lower in intensity after the update, toggle the "EnableHDR" checkbox on if is off to alter the state to the now correct one.
    - Added Temporal AA option to lower the noise of the volumetric sampling when needed (directional light or if noise-less mode is not used)
    - Added Downscale option to lower the overall solution resolution, this can effectively double the performance, but will lower the overall screen crispness as shown in linked photos. (No Downscale - No TAA,No Downscale - With TAA, 2x Downscale - No TAA,2x Downscale - With TAA)
    - Added new experimental Blend option of the solution, this is work in progress and not yet to be used for production. The feature will be finalized in the next Ethereal version.
    - Added new experimental shadow fade mode enabled by setting Shadow setting variable vector W component to a value other than zero. This is an experimental mode to allow more control over the shadow fading of directional light

    This looks like a pretty awesome plugin! However we cannot find any documentation or technical implementation notes - We cannot possibly buy this plugin without first knowing if it suits the needs of our project. Can you write a brief or do a quick video showing a breakdown of how it is rendered?

    Hi, i just raytrace from the camera with a step and sample the lights shadow using URP sampling functions directly, there is no much else to it really, plus in latest version I allow a downscale factor to the final solution and added a temporal AA integrated to the lights only so wont affect the scene.

    This is from the next update description, also contains images for reference on the new modes:
    -Added Temporal AA option to lower the noise of the volumetric sampling when needed (directional light or if noise-less mode is not used)
    -Added Downscale option to lower the overall solution resolution, this can effectively double the performance, but will lower the overall screen crispness as shown in linked photos. (No Downscale - No TAA, No Downscale - With TAA, 2x Downscale - No TAA, 2x Downscale - With TAA)

    - Added Downscale option to lower the overall solution resolution, this can effectively double the performance, but will lower the overall screen crispness as shown in linked photos. (No Downscale - No TAA, No Downscale - With TAA, 2x Downscale - No TAA, 2x Downscale - With TAA)
    - Added new experimental Blend and Composite modes option of the solution, this mode allows downscale of the volumetric lighting with crisp object edges. The feature is in its first version and will be augmented further in the next Ethereal versions.
    - Added experimental Multi Scatter fog option
    - Added new shadow fade out mode when ShadowsControl.w variable is set to value above or below zero, with the fade depending on the chosen value. Make sure to reset this value to zero to get same result as the system before this update.
