No, it happens to me even if the project is new. Not only that, it leaves something in memory as the project itself can't be deleted from the hard drive without getting the error "it is open in another application" even though Unity has been forced to close using task manager.

Happening a lot at my side as well (it's hanging right now). At first I thought tk2D might have something to do with it, but that's not since the tk2D author is having the same issue even when NOT using his asset.

Yep, happened to me. First time using 4.3 this morning and I can't do anything with my project thanks to .blend files not importing properly, the model preview panel is godawful slow, and Unity won't shut down properly when I try to quit. Well done guys, great update. Never had problems like this with a previous release.

If I just open the project and quit it without editing anything in it, it exits normal, but if I edit anything, it freezes. I don't think it has anything to do with any extra asset because my project has +200mb and I don't use any extra asset... Anyway this is not a major issue since the project files is not being corrupted or any stuff like that...

If you have a good repro case, please submit it as a bug. I never did because it only happened a few times, randomly, and they tend not to look at bug reports without a good repro case.

Having the same issue closing Unity 4.3. At my place it's the process adb.exe which runs in background for the Android builds. When I kill this process Unity shut downs correctly. Looks like Unity tries to kill that process as well with no sucess and just waits and waits and ...

While I don't really have a repo case to submit I too have noticed this.

For instance every once in awhile upon generating a new project from within an already loaded up unity it freezes, upon ctrl+alt+del and killing the process in task manager it goes away and seems to recover just fine, but however it is a bit annoying.

Likewise every once in awhile regardless of the scene complexity or the complexity of the project it will freeze upon exiting, requiring me to force end the unity process.

I noticed that one time after it froze when I restarted Unity and brought up Monoscript there were some very strange characters at the top menu area. Like a bunch of [] or () looking stuff except like fully connected.

So I'm guessing this Unity freezing stuff might have something to do with the new MonoScript.

I've also noticed that sometimes scenes are taking longer to start up in Play Mode which I thought I read in the patch notes they improved it. Seems to be the opposite to me.

So I think there are A TON of new bugs in 4.3 but none of them seem to be much more than an inconvenience having to restart Unity worst case scenario so far.

Thanks Xaron! I've been having the freezing issue as well when quitting, and ADB was the cause in my case as well. If I manually terminated ADB, then it quit successfully.

I can also confirm the freezes and that killing adb fixes it.

    +1.

Now I was making a simple test with some objects in a new proyect, and in this case I didn´t connected the Android phone to the PC, but Unity freezed anyway when I tried to close. I went to Task manager and there was the ADB.EXE. I Stopped the process and Unity inmediately closed by itself.

Make sure that when you close the editor isnt compiling any scripts or saving the scene since that would cause the editor to crash.

Happens on exiting as well as going from one project to another, Have to kill process every time :/
Also monodevelop occasionally will no longer allow me to alt/tab between anything other than the desktop (have to system reset in order to correct this).

I get the same as others. When quitting/closing unity 4.3 95% of the time it freezes. Killing adb.exe first before shutting down Unity is a fix I use. More seriously, at random times, pressing the play button freezes unity. Making sure adb.exe is not running usually fixes the press play button freeze bug.

I have to say that it is simply kicking my ass atm. I can't settle to a good session of coding..... I need unity to work.

For windows, could use a simple script to kill adb.exe on startup, and restart if doing android work.

    Such as:
    Code (csharp):
    1. @echo on
    2. echo Stopping Android ADB.EXE file to let Unity 3d Close
    3. taskkill -f -im adb.exe

I can confirm the same behaviour on Windows 7 64bit.
Closing the adb.exe fixes the problem.

Same here, Win7 64bits, on a new and almost empty project. The editor is switched to the Android platform, but I'm not running adb right now.

    Hi,

For those who do not need Android, is it possible to bypass the pb with a modified license file?
I mean removing one of these line?

Uninstalling Xamarin Studio solved the problem for me on Windows. I had both Android sdk and Xamarin-Android sdk installed, so there was probably some conflict.

I had to manually delete Xamarin directories too, because of failed Xamarin uninstallation (locked files problems as in Unity). Probably is better to do a Windows reboot before trying to uninstall Xamarin.

Perhaps you can uninstall Android-sdk instead of Xamarin-Android too...

(I did the update of Android sdk stuff too... Just in case... :)

    Edit: This solved nothing! Sorry...

I concur with the problems. Android project, Unity Pro, Windows 7 x64. Latest Unity update has not fixed it, only broke Vuforia for me :( Looking forward to updates!

If you start adb before loading Unity, it won't freeze. I wrote a simple batch file to start adb, then start Unity. Unity hasn't frozen since.

    Thank you Xaron!!!
Thanks to this tip, I can now close Unity with all my prefabs saved.
(Previously, I would kill Unity and found that prefab changes did not get saved).

I just wanted to add that this is happening to me also; however, I am using 4.2.1f4 and "do not" have the Android ADB.EXE. This problem seems to occur after importing a Maya Binary or FBX model.

ditto.. updated to 4.3.3 and still hangs on exit... I "do not" have ADB running.. this is when updating a project, or after importing a Maya Binary. So I am thinking this has something to do with a background loader in Unity not being able to close something properly. In my case, it loads Maya in the background to convert the MIB or FBX and doesn't close it... have to kill Maya then Unity closes.

This time Unity freezed at close, and I had not connected my phone to Build the game or using Unity remote.

I saw that "adb.exe" was running in the task manager, I closed it and Unity closed (as always...).

Still occurs for me in 4.3.3 so my bug #583490 still stands - have to force close adb.

Not that the bug report probably contains much useful information as it's hard to pinpoint but only happens after using the editor for some time - this is clearly a bug for a great many people though so hope it's top priority!

It happens to me on both the PC the Mac since changing to v4.3 - and I don't do any Android dev on my Mac. Reported as Case 584066. Still happening on v4.3.3, I'm also getting a ton of random compilation errors on v4.3.3 (in scripts I didn't edit since last play) so I'm in the process of rolling back to v4.3.2.

I just double checked, adb isn't running as standard on my PC either. I have a script I run just before doing an android build which calls "adb start-server", so all of the hangs for me have been without adb running.

For some reason this version of it in issue tracker was marked fixed, but it is defined differently in this open issue, so please vote for it.
