    I use Blender, it is free, and it works great, totally fulfilling the job requirements. 'Nuff said.

    Modo because I like it and I use it myself.

    This is also the response you will get in different explanations all the time. People recommend their software because it's what they are used to and what they know and can work with. I can give you a lot of reasons to use Modo but at the same time I have no idea about what's in the current build of Blender and what the current workflows in Blender look like.

    And that's the same for every time the question "which program should I use" is asked.
    Just use the search function. There are a ton of threads discussion which of the major apps can or should be used.

    In the end - try for yourself, look where you find the training amterial you need and then decide.

    There are tons of 3d modelling applications out there.
    From free, to ones that you have to pay for.

    Blender= Free
    Maya= You must pay for
    3dsmax= You must pay for
    etc.

    In the end, it's up to you, to choose one that best fits you, your personal likings and style etc.

    Both Blender and Modo are nice! :D

    I am originally a Maya user, but I have been using Blender for the past 4 years, and I loving it! :cool:
    I also use Sculptris too. :)

    Regarding Modo, there is a very affordable indie edition on Steam (subscription based or permanent licence).
    Has a few limitation but is pretty good.
