Hey I saw your comments about the Uni Sky system on that project's release and I just wanted to offer a word of encouragement.

While his system is sweet for many FPS, strategy game etc.. solutions I have been following your thread now for a long time because you have the closest system for sky based flying games, transition from earth to space, and even recoloring the clouds for a volumetric Nebula cloud solution. So I would most definitely be investing in both Uni Sky and 3D Cloud System when it is released so take heart, I don't think I'm alone in that opinion either.

Personally I wouldn't get too hung up on weather and stuff while that is cool but instead focus more on different cloud systems such as high altitude stratus, thick weather, and what would be very cool something like a procedural thunder head generator or even nebula explosion shapes. Like I said above, your system has so many potential applications I'd let the customers worry about particle effects etc.. for now and get your volumetric stuff on the market. But then that is just my opinion.

Look forward to seeing the release in whatever form it takes. ^^b

Thank you for the wonderful comment!

The problem is I am not really a scripter... I came into unity and started with particleFX and scripting on the side... So for me to make something that works, it takes some time ;)

I dont think a nebula would be that hard to make.... I am trying to get a huge collection of presets in store for the release. thunder clouds morning clouds... I might even try to make a option so that the color is changed based on the sun color.

The thing that this system lacks is some real modern technology. For instance it uses some simple math functions to color the cloud. But if I had more knowledge I could have tried to use some sort of scattering effect...

And I cant even figure out a name :p

Could you post a movie? Maybe on Youtube or something similar? I would love to see it in moving action.

Have you tested this on a mobile device? how fast is it?
I wouldn't mine to pay for it, but I would like to know if it runs on iphone/android first ;)

I dont have unity iphone so I cant test it...

But as I said in the original post, it uses particles... With each cloud using 60 particles thats 120 triangles. It might be posable to run it with a few clouds but thats it, sorry :(

I could probably use a optimized version. You could maybe pull of 30 particles... It would not look that good though.

Was the original cartoon clouds faster for this? (iphone)

It contained the same amount of particles, and the coloring script does not take up much frameRate...

I will edit this post a little later with a image of the best and cheapest cloud I can get...

    EDIT:

Ok so here is the best low resolution clouds I can get...

It uses 20 particles. Thats 40 triangles... That is pretty heavily optimized...

It could work like this. I really don't know.

that actually looks pretty cool! :)

can you fly through your clouds? that would be awesome.

btw, what's the name of the system on the store? I saw a few sky systems in there.

    Thanks!

The clouds are true 3D so you can fly through them...

These clouds are not yet on the store, they are still in development.

I will post here when they are finished, it might not be for a while though, I have a big toDo list ;)

    Hi 3d.

    Beautiful clouds :)

...I'm very new to unity, so there might be another solution to this. But will your cloud system be able to resemble a very grey and cloudy day?

    Thanks!

Yes it is quite easy to make grey clouds, it is just a matter of changing a color variable.

This looks great, any chance on an ETA?

As for settings/options provided, as long as we can access stuff via script then I'll be a happy customer. :D

    Thanks!

I am not really sure when... I have been really busy with a collaboration and the Fabricator contest submission. And getting the fire pack ready.

I have not worked on this much in a while. I will maybe make some changes and start working again soon :D

It looks great, and you know the funny thing is I could totally use it for thunder island web player (from the Zapper project). But don't worry I'll leave in till then.

Oh and just saw your fire package so tell me do you always have to be this awesome lol.

    Hehe, well not really ;)

To tell ya the truth I have a lot of work in unity that I am not proud of :)

One thing is if you search for the thread titled: Tis the season for eggnog and giving. I submitted my cartoon cloud package for free... With some slight changes it might work....

    Cheers!

Simple, free, eggnog those are my 3 favorite words :) . And thanks I really could use a simple cloud ONLY (so no worrys) for the web player, otherwise it looks pretty stupid when a lightning bolt comes out of nothing lol. One of these times I'm going to have to come up with something you'll find useful :D.

And everyone don't let him deceive you with his humbleness, he really is AWESOME!

This looks very nice. :) A real shame I can't really get anything from the asset store (if it uses paypal, i'm screwed, since i don't have a paypal account), you plan to release a free beta?

Hmmmm, well I might release a free bata... I am kind of caught up with other projects right now... I might start working on it again though :)

I will release a simple version probably in the next few weeks.

    Cheers!

    Thanks,

Just wanted to post a little update... I have been tied up with some other stuff. But now I am working on it again :)

Here is a little video I put together showcasing the new lighting and coloring/textures.

3d Cloud system is coming soon!

BTW, anyone have a better name? 3D Cloud System is a little boring ;)

    Cheers!

    EDIT:

Also, if anyone would like to see the cloud system come sooner. This question has been bugging me... Anyone have any ideas?

If you could get this to work by default inside of the unisky plugin for those who want some extra effects such as static clouds hanging around mountains, custom fog effects etc.. That would be money. I would definitely be interested in this will little more updates than you have already done. To get it to work one would only have to search to see if there was a Unisky object in the scene and then take the unisky's sun object as the input for your clouds shading, colors etc.. Just an idea =)

Hmmm, maybe... I think it would be pretty easy to just add my clouds to a Unisky scene.

    Thanks a lot!

    EDIT:

    Like I said
Check out that unity answers question for it to come sooner!

Really nice! So I decided to do something about your lack of a name for such an excellent system. :p

And here's the logo (high-res transparent *.png):

Just a little credit is all I ask at the end of the readme file, please - Such as: "Logo created by Majatek - majatekzivennoze@gmail.com" :)

I like the effect of the moon between the clouds. It is a little to bright though, or the smoke in the city is taking its toll on how I should really see the moon. Great idea on the last one where you used the leaves to somehow frame the brightness of the sun. Great work! I hope you showcase more of your talent.

He posted the price in another thread saying that the final product (that will have volumetric 3D clouds) will be about $50 initially. :)

Price, of course, is subject to change, and should only ever be considered as an estimate due to the obvious development phase - he has yet to fully implement the 3D particals, and that might jump up the price in the end once finished.

    That logo is awesome :D

It won't ever have 3d particles... It will just be particles... I have a few techniques to make it look "realistic" and 3D.

Thanks for all the comments and support :)

Can't wait for this to be released! Looks fantastic even at the minimum particles you set.

The cartoon cloud pack you mentioned, do you have an asset store link for that?

Keep up the great work! :D

EDIT: Also, the webplayer link is broken.

3d dude all i can say is wow..your work on particle systems are truly amazing! ..i've looked into all of your packs in the asset store and there all amazing..you really need to consider being the unity forum particle specialist lol :) ..(mainly because every time you look up particles on the forum someone always refers to you as a specialist in particles) but im really looking forward to using for cloud system in my game
