Hello, my idea is so strange, please be patient. I'm ready to launch, on android, a librarian application where books should be lent to someone, should return and so on...

I would like to transport this app in a 3d world.

My idea is to create a 3d desk, a monitor on the desk and by clicking it to take the camera in front of it in order to use the app.

No movement for the player, which is behind the desk, only the ability to turn the head and to see around at least at 180 degree. This 'around' should be obviously a 3d library construction but I want to know if I can use a 360 picture of a library instead. And this question is: which is the best way to do it? I need a starting point to search code. Thanks a lot.

That's a totally fine way of doing it. That photo you posted is a 360 panorama, which is close to the "long-lat" / equirectangular format Unity can automatically convert to cubemaps for use with the cubemap skybox shader.

That particular image won't work quite right with out some manual editing because the top and bottom of the image isn't looking straight up and straight down, such that the top and bottom edge of the image is essential from a single point the view is rotating around, like this:

    Or these:

It's a subtle difference, but one to be aware of. A 360 Panorama may or may not be equirectangular, and may or may not include the full sphere. Equirectangular panoramas or 360 spherical panoramas are what you're looking for. 360 VR panoramas work too. They're all just different names for the same thing, a single image that has the full 360 vertical and 360 horizontal sphere.

Dear Bgolus, thanks a lot, Cubemap is exactly what I'm searching for. Thanks again.

This is a really good (but Italian) guide:

That's for an asset on the store used to converting panoramas into individual cube map faces, which isn't necessary (or really wanted!) for Unity 5 as it's a built in feature of the Unity 5 texture importer, and it'll make real cube map textures which are much better to use. See the first paragraph of my response I posted in first link.

By implementing such types of 360 degree photography technology, e-commerce portals are regularly obtaining distinct advantages over their online product selling competitors, in terms of product-buyer engagements. It allows e-commerce portals to stay integrated with real-time insights of shopper’s interaction with the product that meets 360 photography turntable attributes.
