2D Skeletal Animation - is it possible to swap out parts?

    I'm just after learning that Unity can have 2d skeletal animation and I have a question about it.
    Would it be possible to swap separate parts of the sprite in the animation with code or otherwise? For example if I wanted a character's head to change so I wanted to swap the head part used in the animation for a different head. Uses would be for stuff like character customization or making different characters with the same animation.
    I haven't actually tried this method and I've only looked at Unity in general a little bit so I hope this makes sense, but it's just something I wanted to look into before I dive into learning it!
